OEM plastic shift linkage failures... how many out there?
You all know the part I'm talking about... the plastic POS that connects the base of the shifter stalk to the cable for the forward gears.
How many of you have had this OEM part fail (as in break or become disconnected)?
I only know of 2 Rennlisters who have had this part fail... one in a GT3 and the other in a GT2.
Knock wood

No problems after all these years with a 996 factory SSK and the stock box GT3... but I was thinking of upgrading to the Evo billet linkage.

These are the stories I was looking for. I really didn't want to end up messing with the linkage, but I'll probably end up using the evo part.
Thanks

I used the EVO ssk to replace the linkage.

Mine first broke on the street. After it broke again on the track, I replaced it. Not a good thing to happen there if you drive the car to the track. Cheap insurance.

It seems that the 2 allen screws on the EVO part would mash the threads to pieces...

RJ the allen screws are behind the plastic threads. I heard and felt no crunching.
From Rockitman's install gallery: nice write-up and accurate.

I saw someone's gearshift disintegrate at a trackday and was thinking that it could have ended up causing a major accident. Mine always felt like it flexes and I wasn't willing to risk the chance so changed it at the next opportunity. Went for this billet beauty:
No flex, no slack, slightly reduced shift (22%), and it feels like a rifle bolt - just as it should have been from factory. Bloody marvelous.
