Wow! Is the CAD really that weak compared to the USD? Or do cars really sell for way more there in Canada? That car is priced $30-35K more than it would sell for here in the US.

Beautiful GT3 though. Best of luck with your sale and your impending new car arriving

For a variety of reasons (I certainly don't understand them all), the Canadian GT3s are indeed more expensive than the US ones. Look at the MSRP for the new GT3.

$106,000 US vs $147,300 CDN

Exchange rate alone would put the CDN price in the mid-120's but as you can see, there is another $20K CDN to account for.

That $100K GT3 for sale in Montreal is a fantastic price and one that wouldn't make it worth your while bringing one up here from the US unless you were looking for a different configuration. Believe me, I know what it costs to bring one up here. But that price is far below what I've heard of GT3s selling for in Canada (not that there are many that come up for sale). It makes me wonder about the condition of that car.

Still, 147CAD is only 121K USD so they sell for roughly 20K USD more up North. So the one priced (NOBLE link) at 99K CAD is $85K USD. Still overpriced IMHO and not a great deal as you say. But then again, I have no right to assume either stance (good deal or not) since I am not familiar with the CAD or the Auto Industry in Canada either. Just a guy making an observation and appreciating the price we pay for cars here relative to the rest of RoW. I just figured CAD being North America would be similar in price/value to those in the USA.

Yup, you US folks have it pretty good. I'm also a woodworker and I see the price difference in power tools all the time.

There's also a 6.1% (I think) import duty and this will apply on any individual bringing a car from the US into Canada. I'm not sure what the CDN dealers have to pay to the feds on new cars that might help explain part of that extra $20K. Last summer I heard 2004 GT3s were in the $115-$120K CDN range up here, but that was before I came across rennlist.

The price disparity between US cars and CDN cars spans pretty much all makes. It even made the TV news up here due to the large number of folks wanting to bring US cars into Canada. Besides dealing with the mods to the cars to make them legal on CDN roads (some cars are easy, some like Mercedes require about $5K worth of mods), dealing with warranties is the biggest potential headache. As presented on the news, some makes won't honor warranties on imported cars so often we're stuck with higher prices.

The car at Decarie Motors has, like some Rennlist posters.......a chequered history and doubtful ancestry. Caveat emptor! There was something about turn one at Tremblant. Tremblant has bad memories for some Rennlist posters as well.

As for the difference in price between US and Canada, it's roughly 40%. Take the MSRP on the RS here for instance $171,000 as compared to what? ......$124,000 usd. We have to pay a lot for DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) and PCNA's excessive mark-up.

But what people may not realise is the Canadian cars all have more power, are lighter and except for a few notable exceptions are better driven

The car Noble posted was foe sale for almost a year. It started shy of 130K CAD and worked its way down to 99K.

Our cars do sell for more than just the difference in exchange rate but it also has to do with offer and demand. We have less P-cars for sale in the entire Canada than the state of California.

When I had finally set my mind on a RSA, there were less than 5 for sale in the entire country, RS America.net had 15.

Ron's car is flawless and has alot of good stuff on it.

PCNA hoses us here in Canada. I don't blame anyone for going to the US to pick up a car.

As mentioned above, not only is the price better (even with exchange, duty etc.) but the selection is a LOT better. There are just more cars to choose from.

Personally, I think T2 at Tremblant induces more of the pucker factor than T1.

Good luck with the sale.

finger wagging at me are we?
and the buyer ( not me)knew it and had it checked by porsche dealers and got a huge discount off the 99000 asking, i have seen the car and driven it and its perfect in every way. no GT3 is worth more than 100 cdn up here period. especially when people can import from the US.
you will not sell your car for anywhere near asking.

The last used 996GT3 sold by a local dealer in October 06 for $119 K. It had 9k km and was all stock. Car sat in the showroom all summer with little action and immediately after it was sold there were three other people calling to buy it.

You really have to try it, with the back end leading , to appreciate the true pucker factor.

Regarding Canadian pricing.... while we are down, the both levels of government kick us once again with goods and services taxes.

In Quebec we pay 6% federal tax, then 7.5% provincial (state) tax on the sub total of the goods plus the federal tax.

That's right. We are pay provincial tax on the federal tax.

Oh yeah, last insult to injury..... most folks only bring home 55% of their gross income after the income tax man takes his cut. So you have less money to buy your over priced car with. That's a main reason why small cars are popular here.

and now the 997GT3 is landing here in north america the 996gt3 will slide further. we in canada are always behind the US in terms of car pricing. when it catches up it will be dramatic.

I'm trying to delay feeling that as long as possible.
