After looking at the pads again it looks like the "grooves" you see are the cross drilled holes and the line they would make is spun in a circle??? Sound right?

hairline crack on rotor is fine, in fact, if you dont see them, most likely you are going too slow ;-)

pads look normal. that's how mine are.

as far as brake cooling goes, i think (or i want to think) it helps. but i personally dont see or feel difference with or without the air ducts. this is true wiht my GT3, C2, m3 and cayman. i am a bad, hard braker though. i toast pads like no tomrrow. though i have NEVER experienced lack in braking power or fade of any sort even on back to back track days totally 450 track miles. i do bleed them every other track day and run motul 600.

Dell - The GT3 Cup brake ducts (air deflectors really) helped me reduce rotor wear. I also tried another trick suggested by a Rennlister. I use RS 14 pads in the rear. The 14 is a pretty harsh pad. It improves the brake balance and makes the rear rotors work harder and the fronts a little less. The result has been excellent. Improved braking, much longer rotor life in front and now some minor cracks on the rear rotors. I have done 24 track days on my front rotors - this is more than double what I got with Rs 19's all around. Note that I installed the Cup brake ducts at the same time and no doubt improved cooling helps too.

Best,

Nice work TD!!! Glad the new paint survived!

Terrific observation.

BTW, I have some great footage of the GTR... including the little 'smoking' incident.

Matt you were spot on! I didn't beleive it till I actually experienced. Damn tires. The only problem I had on the track was the 5-6-7 combo. You are 100% correct, that is NOT three corners, but rather one long sweeping arc. My problem with that combo is that all the cars with R-comps and slicks were killing me there. I would catch them b/t 14 and 1, then on their @ss through 2,3, and 4 and constantly having to lift so I wouldn't smack into their @ss. Then we get to 567 and I am hanging on for dear life and if I get impatient and push it a bit I catch the marbles and start to loose the rear! Then we head out of 7 down the small straight and they assume I am not ready to pass so I have to get them before the kink or my entire lap is wiped out. ARGHHH!!!!

Let's just say, tires are up next. then new GT3

Yup, snake is a bitch on street tires in a heavy rear-engined car like a 996. Very difficult to get good corner exit speeds.

I just picked up a new set of shaved RA-1s for VIR with NNJR. Should be fun.

BTW . . . I can't believe you are shopping for a GT3 and you are still using streets on the 996 Crack open the wallet for God's sake

Baby steps Todd.....baby steps. It's not that I haven't wanted to go to R-Comps sooner but rather the track tires (which are S0-2's) still have a few weekends left on them and there is no way to justify to the wife (who also tracks) why I am throwing away perfectly good tires before their time.

As for the wallet, it seems that everybody and their mother has cracked open my wallet over the last 30 days I have been in my new home. The builder, the lanscaper, the home improvement stores, the furniture stores, etc, etc, etc. At this rate I will never get my 3!
