996 GT2 is easier since it's not so rare (even though it was produced in very small numbers).
There the VIN and all the regular steps (PPI etc.) should be adequate.

What is PPI?

And where is the VIN located?

Based on the fun factor of my 993 RS PCA race car; a 993 GT2 would be my choice over any Porsche that I've driven which include a 996 GT3 and a 996 Twin Turbo with the Evo 3 upgrades.

Based on this statement I'd say get the 996 GT2. The 996 will ultimately have superior performance and replacement parts and upgrades should be easier to come by.

Nope!! Get in the car rev it up to 6K and drop the clutch. If you start to loose the rear end then it's a GT2
