Default FYI GT3 RS Decklid is NOT Carbon Fiber.

Just want to let people know:

The 996 GT3 RS rear decklid is NOT carbon fiber as per all the threads about it here.

(Unlike the front hood, which has beautiful weave clear coated underneath and is pre-primerd)

The rear deck is the same material, except it features the "air scoop" on top of the decklid, and comes pre painted white.

On my cup car, both rear deck lid and rear bumper cover are carbon fiber. The hood, however, is stock.

The GT3RS will only be a disappointment to those who already have a GT3.
If you do not currently own a GT3, it is an easier choice to buy the GT3RS.
If you currently own a GT3, the price of the 997GT3RS isn't really the big issue, its the loss you will take on your current GT3 when you sell it on top of it.

Basically those who currently own a GT3 will have an out of pocket expense of whatever the price of the new RS PLUS approx $30,000? That is the hard pill to swallow. Now I think we could swallow that $30K if the RS had more than the wider ***.

Agree... confusion here is the between the Cup car deck lid and the street car deck lid. As others said... the race cars have the carbon fiber rear deck lid.

I swapped my standard GT3 Mk1 lid for an RS lid and the material seems to be a thin plastic - very light. The original lid is glassfibre I think. Have no idea what the stock Mk2 lid is though.

Stock Mk2 lid vs Stock Mk2 RS lid seem to weigh the same.
