What is the best way to tie down a GT3 in a trailer? My enclosed trailer has D-rings.

The only factory tie-down appears to be the tread in tow hook in the front bumper.

I've towed my Carrera track car for 9 years using the wheel tie-down method with ratchet straps going to the D-rings.

Other suggestions:

-Set the handbrake after strapping down the car.

-Leave the tranny in neutral.

This looks the best - doesnt touch rim or frame - just need a logistics track bolted or welded to floor.

I wouldn't set the E-brake. It won't help keep the car stable and will only damage parts if it is stressed.

What if your car is missing a handbrake. I heard that leaving is tranny is gear is bad as it could damage the syncos as it gets rocked backwards and forwards.

I had frame mounted tow hooks attached to the GT3. I would then just clip on tie down straps to the hooks on one end and the other would attach to the trailer. It is faster then the wheel straps and wont mess with the alignment.

Get car in trailer, set E brake. Leave in neutral. Tie down the straps and X the rear ones. Cinch it all down tight and take off E brake. Every so often or if you stop abruptly, check the straps. They are Nylon and do stretch.

If you dont have an Ebrake get a line lock or leave in gear untill you get some straps on, BUT DO NOT tighten down with car in gear and do NOT leave car in gear.

Where and how were they attached? Custom part or off the shelf part?

I also remeber seeing some tie down hooks for Porsches that replaced one lug bolt in each wheel but I am not sure that this sounds like a great idea.

These are what I have on my GT3, recommended by viper bob.

Trailer Tie-Down Hooks for 993 and 996. Front and rear hooks available for both models. Hooks are powderpainted red for visibility and durability. These hooks make strapping the car to the trailer very simple, just snap-and-go.

Available for nearly all Porsche Track Cars.

Yes, those are them. You just need to bend them a bit for angle fitment.

I prefer to tie down by the wheels which allows the car to ride on its own suspension. Use wheel bonnet straps (which go over the tire) or axle straps (nylon) passed through each wheel. With the axle straps you need some soft cloth between the strap and wheel so as not to damage the wheel's finish.

Thanks for the help! I am going with the brackets in the link above as they look like the will work well.

I am not a big fan of the straps that pass through the wheels as you end up pulling on the suspension corners of the car. While this does not compare to the loads seen while driving, I am still don't like it. The system in the link above that uses e-track mounted directly under the wheels to tie the car down by the wheels looks great but that will require reconfiguring the trailer so that is out of the question too.
