Default Check Engine Light Help....

I was just driving home and my car just threw on the check engine light. I have a track event tomorrow and am kinda worried about it now. Do I run the car at the track event? The car seems to be running fine and the only mod I have are MUFFLER bypass pipes from fabspeed. What is the recommendation, run the car because it is not acting funny, or do not take the chance?

Hey,
This is a problem I had on three separate occasions this year.
Each time it was something emissions related.
They replaced a MAF, catalytic converter and a vacuum hose on those visits and the light has been off since.

I drove the car with no loss in performance and no effect on engine health. Do your track event then take it to the dealer. One time, my dealer "reset" the light while I was waiting for the cat. and I tracked without any problem.

Good luck,
Jeff

Only CEL to worry about is if it's blinking.

Go to any auto parts store in your area that is still open and buy a code reader for ~$100 if you're really nervous about it.

Did you fill up with gas recently? Remove the gas cap & re-tighten it.

I also have the bypass pipes and they've never caused a CEL.

Stop by AutoZone and get them to read your ECU for free.

Unplug the battery for a few seconds and plug it again. Drive the car and most likely the CEL won't come back for a while.

CEL (Check Engine Light) is related to emission controls most of the time. MAF, oxygen sensors before and after cats, etc.

Be worried if you have blinking lights or red lights.

Emisssions Bullstuff-just take to track but if peace of mind get a obd11 reader from kragens et al and erease it. Other then blinking kinda engine lite-track should be no issue. Regards. Mike
