Default Hoosier R6's

Anyone using R6's on their gt3's? What kind of hot pressures work best? Currently using MPSC's and looking for something better without going to a slick.

Some people may argue that on a heavy car like the GT3, MPSCs when up to temperature are the equal of Hoosiers. I personally do not see it that way & feel that the Hoosiers are a second or so faster at a 120 second track. Try starting at 30 lbs cold to get you to around 38~40 lbs hot. That should get you to within a pound or so of where you want to be.

I agree with Larry. The Hoosiers are gret and get up to temp quicker ten the cups. 1/2 lap vs 1 or 2 laps. Never go above 40lbs.

I am one of those people .

I bought 2 full sets of R6s and just didn't like them. I ran them at the WG race and couldn't break 2:12 in the sprint race. Put on my old & crusty MPSCs (25 heat cycles) and ran 2:10s very early in the enduro. Now, I chalked up some of that to familiarity and comfort with the MPSCs, so I ran them again at another event. Again, they felt good, put the times just were not there. I took tire temps, and it looked like I was getting the tires too hot. So, I gave up and just went back to MPSCs. Now, the Hoosiers did feel faster, so maybe I didn’t give them enough of a chance.

So after my 2.5 days on the Hoosiers, I really found the the MPSCs to be more controllable. The Hoosiers seemed more like a slick, where they stick, stick, stick then let go. I find MPSCs to have a very gradual break away point that is very easy to control. I think the MPSCs require more slip angle to be generated, whereas the Hoosiers like less. I have also not experienced the “difficult to warm up” problem. In fact, aside from the very first session of the day, they seem to need very little warm up at all.

As for tire temps, I was just told by Tim at Hoosier that I should be running around 42 & 44 hot? He said that was what the grand-am teams are running, the R6 tire isn't far away from what they are using.

I really think that at a certain point, driver preference, style and car setup can make one tire superior to another for driver A, and the opposite for driver B. I have also been told by others that the MPSC is a faster tire in long sweepers, but slower in tighter turns. Could be due to grip characteristics and rolling resistance. Just proves that there is no one ultimate setup in racing.

anyone else like the cups over the R6s? I just corded out my Hoosiers over the weekend. I like them very much but it is APITA to track away from home. I was thinking of moving to the cups. What should I expect the difference to be when I load them up?

Why leave Hoosiers?

I liked the Kumho V710 245/285 better than the 245/315 Hoosier R6.. the Hoosier had more grip in the longer sweepers, the Kumho drives better at the limit and the glide is very predictable.

i loved the cups, and they are easy if you drive the car away from the track, and if i didn't race i would use them. they also last longer. as larry pointed out earlier it is probably just [my] driving style but there is a solid second and a half for me (maybe more) in the hoosiers, and i get good consistency out of them and find them predictable in my car. you know what time is in a race.... i ran cups before at all the de's and loved them, and could hang with most in hoosiers.

Hi,

Can anyone of you guys using Hoosier R6s on their GT3 tell me what sizes to purchase? I cannot find an exact match for the front and am a little confused about the rear as well given that some of you are using 315s instead of 295s.

Thanks
