how bout just drive the gt3 get over the drama of the sunroof and move on ... porsche interested in making money period... focus group said they needed sunroof for the posers out there who will never see the track, so they did it...
i hate the fact, but it is what it is... i think we should be more concerned computer controlled shocks , psm etc will they interfere like the do on other 997s... i know they sy it can be cut off but never able to completly cut off in the 997 or my 997 tt

Personally,
If they bring the RS with sunroof, no CF seats, no Rollbar, no LWFW, no plastic windows, it will run about $20k to get the U.S. RS to ROW RS specs. It will be a $150k car with a market value of $100k. RS production numbers will be limited to the number of orders Porsche can get.
I won't pay $150K for the RS. What's next? A GT2 with a sunroof.

I still don't understand why Porsche refuses to crash a few more 911's without sunroofs in order to legalize them... It seems absolutely asinine, if you ask me.
I'm surprised Porsche isn't doing what BMW did with the M6 and building a GT3 with an exposed (errr, unpainted rather) carbon fibre roof structure.
While it does lighten the car, it's also a great marketing gimmick

MacLean Quality Composites makes carbon fibre sunroof plugs for three models of older Hondas. Perhaps they would build one for the 997 if assured of sufficient orders.

Wow, that sun roof plug is pretty clean. I wonder if you can get the sunroof bits in and out, without any damage. That would be great, take it out and then keep it if you decide to sell. A sunroof is way down the list of things for me to worry about at my current level, but its nice to see there are options.

As JasonAndreas said,
It's not that big of a deal (both money and laborwise).
If I end up with GT3 and it has the hole, for sure I'll get rid of it. Before that, I'm doing it on my 993 even though in these cars it's little more complicated.

I think this post is dumb from this standpoint, there is no reason why we should have to have the sunroof, deleting it yourself is not a reasonable option, PCNA needs to do better by us, and I think that if it is a cost issue then why cant they petition DOT, show thema computer sim, or the logical argument a car w/o a sunroof is actaully stiffer

My point exactly Dark Knight. It goes without saying that Porsche should offer GT3 with S/R delete option. There is still hope. But this long thread is exhausting.
