Predictions: 996 GT3 value in 1-2 years?

When/if 6GT3 ever gets to a point of serious and solid appreciation, mileage and usage won't matter too much IMO. Look at all the pricey aircooled stuff around currently, 150K mile plus mostly and not hurting value. Yes there will always be unicorns and in case of 997 more queens because they appreciated early in their life time so mileage is more crucial (unfortunately) in that case. The 6s will always be track rats as they've been seen as unloved until recently, nothing wrong with that. We can enjoy without guilt.
It's a sad situation when you rock up to a Porsche club sprint and the paddock is filled with standard GT3s and the RS cars are in the parking lot.

Bought mine because it represented what a Porsche was when I first became a fan in my teens. A drivers car. You drive the car, it doesn't drive (for) you. Appreciation was the last thing on my mind.
The car still has less than 3,000 miles on it and has become a garage queen because (1) I don't track and the car has never been on a track. (2) There are no places to "let it out". (3) It's too nice to expose to other drivers who couldn't care less about driving.
If the right antique comes along I'll may sell it because the early cars are my 1st choice.
Tom
PS: Some kids from a local elementary school were on a field trip when they happened into a shop I frequent. The shop has a simulator. Being kids they were intrigued with this "video game". lol
One of them asked what the pedal on the far left was for?
"That is the clutch pedal."
"What's a clutch?"

Definitely a drivers car. Really raw compared to new stuff. I'm not sure how much longer I can handle it. Getting old sucks. I had the car out yesterday. Still smiling- yes- I scared myself a few times. Roads were a bit slick on older MPSC

What was the temp? I have a new set of Pirelli PZeros which are just ok and never had any issues but that was always over 50 degrees or so.

They were cycled out MPSC from 09" They are the set I leave the car to sit on over the winter. It was just about 50 degrees and damp roads. Exactly as I expected. I was EXTRA careful.

One of my neighbors (who drives a 996 with an aero kit) said to me yesterday, "high mileage 996 GT3s (in his view, that's anything above 40k miles) are dropping in value and can be had for $40-45k now" He went on to say that included cars in good condition, as opposed to those that have been permanently removed from street legal condition, beaten half to death on the track trading paint with crazed Miata drivers and which have had all the interior comforts removed in the hopes of shaving lap times.
Yeah, I don't think so, or I'd have a few more clogging the driveway. I didn't respond to him - it seemed the best response was none at all.

^ We all would (and most of our wives would hurt us badly for doing so)
It's fun to contrast the experience of the C2 with that of the GT3. I find the Mustangs and Ricer Hondas with Fartcan mufflers tend to "challenge" the GT3 a lot more - no surprise there. The wing attracts them like moths to a flame and I find them rolling alongside me on the highway, shooting hopeful looks over, "wanna race?"
I need to carry a big can of Rice-Away.

This is the last car of it's kind to ever roll off the line at Porsche, period.
The government and our litigious society have seen to it. You cannot buy a new car from a "major" without "assistance". Many need it and new age "track guys" abuse it. I hate it in a sports car. It's not pure. It's a pox.
Consider the "new" horsepower wars (these originated in the 60's for you youngsters). There is no way on earth that any car needs 600 horsepower BUT with aids you can make it safe for morons to drive.
You know; the ones with no abilities, self control or accountability. That's how it's done although www.wreckedexotics.com still proves me wrong every Monday morning. Dumb asses from every corner of the world still manage to wad up perfectly good cars doing stupid things that even a computer couldn't save them from.
As for collecting I'm reminded of my thinking when I turned my back on a "real documented" '73 RS for $72,000 in 2004 and wasn't the lucky guy (in hindsight) who bought one of the best 471 models for $125,000 which I happened to be photographing.
What was I thinking? Apparently not as collector thinks.

The 964 RSA was a $60K car 3 years ago. Now double that or more. I think a decent 996 GT3 is about $75 K now, up from about $60K a year ago so it is rising. With 997 GT3's about $90K now, the 996 is a bargain and that will not last.
