Sunroof 'configuration' mass and don't forget about its location. For 'sprung mass' its in one of the worst possible places on the vehicle.
997 GT3 pass the 996 GT3 on track, I assume so, but it can be done easier lap after lap without the roof anchor.
Remember the 996 GT3 marketing with the PCCB, 'lower unsprung mass than iron brakes' (30 lbs less weight) speal.
GT3 Euro seat pair 58 lbs less than standard US sport seat pair.
We are talking about a car company that has a tremendous racing history. The engineers and GT3 pedigree need to win on this one, otherwise remove the badge.

If you notice on the 997 GT3RS cage, the top bar is straight and not bent upwards like on the 996 GT3RS where it would offer maximum protection. I guess this is so they can fit the optional ROW sunroof - which would mean standard sunroof on US version.
