Default Engine lid emergency release

I can't open the engine lid with the electrically activated switch. (Yes, the battery is fully charged.)

So where is the emergency release located on an '04 996 and how is it accesssed?

(I did a search, but the only thing I found related to a '99 car with a mechanical rather than electrical release -- it said the cable is behind the left tail light. Same for later electrically switched latch cars?)

Thanks, Andy

Pull out the light fixture and you will see the cable/wire!

Reviving this old thread. I was changing the air filter in my 996 GT3 and came across the emergency cable pull wire in the driver’s side corner of the engine compartment. The wire goes into the space behind the driver’s side tail light and then loops back into the engine compartment and directly to the lid latch.
With the lid closed it’s not possible to remove the retaining bolt holding the tail light and thus gain access the wire loop, so how is this supposed to work in an electrical release failure? TIA for replies.

You have to remove rear bumper and shields to get to it. Mike

Thanks Mike.
Next time I have the air filter out I may relocate the loop so it’s accessible by reaching up above the muffler from under the car.

Good idea, also applies to front release cable, which is on the right side.
