Default Love Alcantara, can I get cloth seats too?

Currently I have an 06 M3 with competition package. I know it's of small importance, but I love the alcantara steering wheel and brake. I couldn't be happier than when I saw the GT3 has both steering wheel, brake, and shifter in alcantara. I also read that the sides of the seats will be in Alcantara.

Does anyone know if a cloth seat option is available, or are we stuck with leather? I love the sportyness of these non-leather options.

Thanks
Aaron

The alcantara seats are actually the middle section inserts. Pics attached of leather, cloth, and alcantara. (courtesy of Carnewal)

Now those are HOT! When I pick up my GT3 this summer I am going to do the alcantara wheel, shifter and seat inserts.

I can't imagine the cloth one's lasting very long if you track ALOT and HARD. But those leather/alcantara ones look great (and durable).

IIRC, you can even get the alcantara in different colors; looks very nice in deviating colors (body color, belts, etc).
Probably something you could ask Gert about....

Lewis....youa re spot on! I forgot to add that. So I would further my comment above that I will put those in my GT3 this summer with matching inserts (e.g., SY GT3 with yellow alcantara inserts). CAN'T WAIT!!!!

The part numbers for cloth from the Recaro 996 GT3 shells are 996.521.985.00 and ...986.00.

The mounting points for 997 and 996 are the same. The OMP brand shells for the 997GT3 Euro seats will likely be available with cloth covers as well.

Gert's inserts are made by a local upholstery shop. I got a bunch of gray/black swatches of Alcantara, but none of them match the factory colors or the factory Alcantara pieces. Anyone got any leads or time to track down the color codes of the factory parts? If it stops raining, I'll try to post some pics in decent daylight.

I had no idea. Did you get this info from Gert? Have a hard time believing that he would sell the factorry alcantara package (wheel, shifter, ebrake) and sell seat inserts that do NOT match. Just looking for some clarification.

Yes, info is from Gert. He sells the factory wheel/shifter/ebrake. I got just the wheel and shifter since mine is not a GT3 (too poseurish and expensive). They are not black, but a dark gray. The factory does not make Alcantara seat inserts, so his are "aftermarket" and supposedly very close matching. I got 6 samples of grays to blacks from the US importer of Alcantara and none of them match the factory Alcantara. I can also tell you that the Alcantara black is way too black for the factory black leather/trim. I would like to do the ebrake and door handles in matching Alcantara (so it's just not 2 isolated pieces), but I can't find what the right color code is. Here is a link for some other Alcantara pieces to drool over. http://www.cargraphic.com/index.php?...715,1366,2168/ None of the swatches I received really matches Graphite Grey either. I'll have to see if any of the swatches matches Gert's picture as his look pretty nice in the photo.

Not likely to be an issue in your case, as I don't think there will be an issue of color matching between your SY alcantara inserts and any other OEM SY alcantara trim pieces.....

WHO is the US alcantara importer?
Id like to add some alcantara to a 993 interior (shift boot), etc.

Where is the best (cheapest) supplier of alcantara fabric on its own?

OEM alcantara bits can be purchased from Gert at Carnewal (and flown in) or ordered thru Sunset Imports (who will likely have them flown in from Germany...1-4 weeks usually).

You could also try Gulf fabrics if you want to buy the fabric itself.

Gulf Fabrics is the N.A. importer. I would imagine the cost of the material is insignificant for me compared to the labor to recover small areas. The seat inserts would be different. Here is the link to their automotive color chart: http://www.gulffabrics.com/alccolor.htm

Sorry, Dell, no Speed Yellow although they might have it from a furniture line or different supplier. The pictures on the webpage are really not that close. I surfed around a bit and found a Marigold Ultrasuede HP that may be close.

The swatches I have are blacks: 9040, 9002; and grays: 2938, 2942, 2934, 4978. Maybe (Murphy's law) the ones I don't have are the magic ones.
