Default '07 GT3: What Options?:

Hi all. I'm a 63 y.o. PCA instructor with 20 years experience, about to to order my final Porsche - an '07 GT-3. The car will be used almost exclusively on track for DE and towed to DE events. What options would you recommend? Ceramic Brakes? Others?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh., BTW, is the '07 GT3 engine based on the same engine as the previous generation GT3, or on the 996/997 engine?

hello, how do you know it will be your last porsche? if you keep on driving hard, you will stay young. heck i am 36 and i continue to behave and spell like i am 12.

options: since you are towing, skip xenon lights, do AC delete, sunroof delete, get club sport if that gets to usa. replace seats with recaro, GT3 or CGT seats. PCCB is a hotly debated issue, since i never used one, i will let others comment on that. GT3 motor remains 3.6L true dry sump as previous generation GT3, unrelated to 996 997 motors.

Hey, you are still pretty young. I prefer to have AC in my track cars as it keeps me fresh when I am off the track. I would skip the PCCBs as well as all the fluff options. Some people like the thicker steering wheel (I have this), for me the jury is still out on this. I prefer the thinner steering wheels of the older Porsches.

By the way, why not get a 996 GT3 now at a huge discount barely used. Plenty are for sale with a few thousand miles on the clock at 30K off MSRP.

khaug: I hope the gt3 is not your last. We've got a guy pushing 82 or 83 who screams around the track. You can read about his recent exploits at the 48hr event at Sebring in the racing forum.

Remember to get the sunroof as an option, no GT3 should be without one

His birthday is in June! I never get on the track when he is on it, 'cause it's too hard when the family gets together.

He does do a lot of track days to enhance his skills! We could all benefit from that, so that's the reason to get a P-car. They last!!

if it doesn't get driven on the street, buy a 997 GT3 Cup car, nearly all the rubbish you don't need has been removed. Lots of parts are better suited for track use than on the street car.

rd: Your Dad's an inspiraration for every driver south of eighty I know! : ) How many younger drivers spend their summer vacations towing their car from Tampa to Montreal for a track event?

ok - here is a mistake I made.... I forgot to get cruise control. I know, I know, it's a track car. However, it's so easy to drive fast that cruise - even for relatively short drives - can be a money saver.

BTW, skip the PCCB brakes. I've just gone through my first front rotor. I'll be replacing with steel.
