If I approach it from a different angle, suppose I track the 997 GT3 a half dozen times a year. Will Porsche cover the PCCB rotors if there is a problem, or will it say "too bad - nothing is covered once you are on the track." After all, the new GT3, as well as the previous GT3, are marketed specifically to be used on the track as well as on the street.

Any thoughts on this?
Porsche will never cover warranty claims if you tell them you've tracked your car. Especially not on wear items like brake discs, even though it's marketed as a track-oriented brake system. Unless it literally crumbles apart (like some Gen-I PCCB did) or you can show there was a manufacturing defect, you won't get any help from Porsche. Just because the part sucks doesn't necessarily mean it's a 'defect,' remember...

Porsche's marketing should be taken with a grain of salt, it's just hype. They also market the Boxster and 997 as dry sump, which is a plain lie.

Never tell them you track your car!!

Hi, go for the PCCB's. They are superb for track racing. However, you have to replace the pads often. I replace them after 10 track days. This is the way to keep the rotors in 100% for a very long time, and they gets better and better. The cost is peanuts compared to the rotors.

I have done a lot of track day racing with my Mk2 CS, and with no problems. The problems were that no Porsche rep give advices on how to use the PCCB's on tracks. We just discovered that the pads were gone due to the heat. You couldn't see from outside that they were used at all!

Go for the PCCB's, and outbrake the others lap after lap. But, change the pads frequently.

lawjdc: Porsche will not cover PCCB rotors under warrenty. TomTom is correct, the will last longer then irons however not long enough for me at $5100 each. Thant is over $10K just for fronts. My car has <30K miles and the fronts have been replaced. Yes: I change the pads at 50%, I stay off ABS, always have a cool down lap,and light candles at Mass. Gen II will be different because Porsche used GT2 and GT3 owners to discover the formulation was wrong with Gen I.

All of that being said, if I had unlimited funds I would run PCCB at the track and just buy rotors when needed. They are great brakes.

OK, So I am going to ask a stupid question then. If you really wanted PCCB GenII on your 996GT3 could you remove GenI PCCB and replace (obviously money would have to be no object) your system with the GenII?? Or are they not compatible?

Dell: do you think Porsche would design a car that would let you retrofit to your car as a bolt on or would you expect them to require you to buy the calipers as well?

Dell. do you guys in LV have any good evernts this year? I remember last year someone was setting up a GT3 day with PDE guys. Was that you?

As to the GenII it would be gret to swap, but I would guess they would require all four. $20K for rotors.

roberga.....we "had" a great event out at the LVMS scheduled for June but was cancelled which included cup races as well! We do have a DE event in mid-May that should be alot of fun. Usually several GT3's, TT's, and Radicals. There have been a few specialized GT3 only days that have apparently been a huge success but I coldn't tell you who put them together.

pcar......it's really puts it in perspective when you illustrate it like that!

How do you know this?

Has a 997 been tracked as hard as a 996GT3. I don't think so.

lol I've shared actual experiences with plenty who track their GT3s & GT2s hard and I've never met one who didn't toast their ceramics on track. They don't outbrake decent steels with good pads either.

Nordschleife's posts are generally spot on and this is no exception.

Anyway good luck with your ceramics, I just wish you wouldn't try to convince others as it will cost them dearly when they do expire.
