i'm putting gt3 seats in my 997s and want to avoid the airbag warning light coming on because of the airbag in the stock seats (and not because the seat belt plug).
any ideas on how to avoid that without needing to go to the delaer to reset the warning light?

You can disconnect it before you install the seats. We did and did not have any problems. Just disconnect the battery first. There is a very small chance that it could go off.

i did it with 996 as you described, it worked.
not so on 997. i know of NO ONE, dealer included, who can kill the stupid air bag light. if you were successful with 997, PLEASE share in step by step detail. thanks.

They can't do it with the computer? I'm told thats the correct way of doing it on the 996 although you can also unplug the buckle sensor which seems to be whats advocated above.

sorry if i sound frusted b/c i am.
996 is very easy to defeat the light.
997 is not.
i took out driver seat and stuff in a gt3 fixed back seat on a cayman. when you do that the light on dash is on, furthermore the "passenger bag deactivated" lite on ctr console remains on 100% of the time. i went to two dealers and they plug the car into their computer. they can turn off the "passenger bag deactivated" light on the ctr console such that it will funciton normally (if no passenger, it's off. if passenger, lite off. if lwt passenger (kid) light on) . but both dealer were unable to turn off the dash light.
furthermore, i was told by both dealer that the center console light will revert to "on" all the time after a few hundred miles if i keep the GT3 seat in the car. and it did relit itself later on.
am i making sense on the above?
has ANYONE actually been able to turn the damn dash light off? i mean actaully done it. if so please share.

No John, you are not making sense. What did you do??? Did you install a GT3 seat into your Cayman? What are you asking about the 997??

Any competent mechanic armed with a wiring diagram should be able to figure it out. Usually there is some kind of resistor in the circuit for the air bag. When you remove the seat, the control unit sees an open circuit and lights the alarm. If you find the pin-outs for the seat wiring connector and solder a resistor of the same value across the pins, it should keep the alarm light off.

the factory seat in 997 and cayman are the same. they have thorax air bag in the seat. so i figured if one knows how to kill light in 997 they can do it with cayman and vice versa.

"When you have the race seat or seats installed the Dealer with a PIWIS Tester (Porsche Service Tester) can turn off the buckle(s) and airbags. They will most likely want you to sign a disclaimer to the affect that they are not liable for doing so. This can be done on all of the 987, 997 and Cayman models. The change is done under the coding section."
