Why is this RS such a big deal anyway? As I recall, the 996 GT3 RS wasn't all that different than the standard 996 GT3.

Power alone does not make a car nice to drive. The 996 GT3 RS is entertaining and talkative, its lighter than the standard GT3 and is full of tiny refinements that all add up to a better drive. Its like having the homecoming queen calling you 'big boy' - really easy to strutt your stuff in, and as predictable as Man O War.
Its not the ultimate street driving machine, for that you have to go to a specialist, but its as good as you get from the factory and that is very very impressive indeed.
R+C
PS do not confuse cars which are preduced by development teams with the rebadged creations of a febrile mind in marketing, the badge does not always say it all.
PPS by the time the Panamera goes into production half Porsche's production will be made by Volkswagen, in East Germany and in Slovakia.

For what it's worth there was no GT3 RS at this years Geneva show. Not sure when it will be official. Someone on this list said it was a year a way.

Intro is March 07...so they will probably unveil at Geneva next year and then start delivery around August 07...same schedule as this GT3

If you look at the pictures of the Geneva Auto show, there appears to be a RS in the background. It could very well be a 996, but I dont see them bringing one of them to the 2007 show. Then again it may not even be an RS.

It may just be me, but does anyone else think the new Clubsport seats fail the International Oo-gly Test? Apparently, the factory hired Chris Bangle to design these beauties...

Not to you presonally but re: dealers and what they "know".

Some of you might remember at least six months ago when I first time said GT3 FOR SURE will have dry sump and there was like 10 different dealers who were saying GT3 will be wet sump...

for what it's worth no dealer has any info on the RS - nada - none - zippo. Nothing they can take to the bank right now anyway.
the RS is a mid run intro (7 years for the 997 as was the 996) - March 07 annonce - with deliveries starting in the 08' model year (maybe early 07's as well)
it's coming to the US and is not finalized yet but it will have some signifiant improvements
expect a 20-30K premium for it - this will actully be a bargin when compaired to the GT3.

PDK is a very real possibility as well (option)

Take this for what's its worth (it's free) - FF was correct and a few others on this board as well
