in Cup racing, the set up is vital. The amount of attention paid to it is amazing and the mechanics and drivers become very adept at adjusting the set up to suit the track and driver. The caster cannot be adjusted.
When giving new drivers a trial, it is normal to send them out with the suspension 'out of adjustment' and wait and see what they say.

I am aware that caster by itself cannot be adjusted on the 996/997, I was commenting on the fact that few people know what those things do in relation to suspension setup.

That being said, the caster does change with the amount of camber that is added or removed.

There is not a direct caster adjustment on these cars. However, caster can be adjusted on the stock GT3. There are two settings on the front control arm.

If shims are added to the control arm, caster and negative camber are increased, then you fine tune with the strut top (camber plates) to reduce negative camber.

I noticed that my car loves as much positive caster as I can get. My front camber plates designed by Manthey Racing increase caster over stock, while they allow for my needed -3.2/-3.5 degrees of negative camber.

Does anyone think it is possible to change out the springs on the PASM? Please don't flame me if this is a stupid question, I'm not a mechanic.

And on that note, will it be possible to lower the height of the PASM system?

Mitch,

Yes and Yes.

The 997 GT3 suspension will be just as adjustable as the 996 GT3's was.

I think all that is needed is a re-program and a new set of springs for the PASM and you are ready to go.

If the 997 GT3 PASM suspension comes with treaded dampers and spring perches to adjust ride height and corner balancing, stiffer or softer spring will be an easy swap. However, before doing that, it will be recommended to know the spring rate ranges the computerized dampers can handle.

Replacing the dampers is an unknown to me. I don't know if the 997GT3 PASM will act crazy with the ECU or the TC or the ABS or any other electronic gizmo due to a failure detected on the PASM by having the sensors unplugged.

I would NOT unplug anything. I do believe that manufacturs will come out, or even porsche will come out with a re-program to deal with the new springs. I think it will be an easier fix then we think.

All I would change are springs, but no one has even driven the thing yet.

I would rather not have to modify anything with the ECU as this would definately void the warrantee. Hopefully Porsche understands the two types of buyers they have for the GT-3, the street poser who wants a soft ride to work each day, and the weekend warrior that wants a car for the track with a warrantee and the ability to occasionally suffer with it on the street.

So, how will you be able to adjust the toe, camber and height of the car? Will u have to lift the car to make the changes?

How is this done on other cars?

Can this be done by an individual?

Thanks,
Greg
