Default 997GT3 vs. 997GT3RS

Since Amir told us that the RS is coming to the US, what do people think will be the improvements over the base GT3?

My guess:

3.8L vs. 3.6L (both dry sump)
Composite body panels (fenders and trunk lid in front)
Widebody (like C4)
Rear plastic window and rear side windows
Sequential tranny (I hope this is only an option)
PCCB standard (big version like on CGT)
CGT seats
RS script and wheels (hopefully with more color combos than 996)
Bolt-in rollbar
Track tires (DOT legal)

20% or more additional price.

Anyone else want to make a stab?

My guess is that neither the GT3 nor GT3RS will have a sunroof in any market...

I don't know if the RS will be street legal with your list. Roll cage won't pass inspection, unless it's a bolt in. Also the windows won't pass, at least in PA, or VA they have to be glass, plexi won't cut it for some reason.

I'm hoping they do put it in the market.

I'm just praying it has all the stuff you listed grant, comes to the states, and is under 130.

Can't see them bothering to use 3.8l and then certify it past all the US emissions legislations etc unless it's based on the 997 block. All imho.

As I stated before here's my wish list:

997GT3 RS:

1) 3.8L or 3.6L producing 430 bhp or more (it will be true dry sump derived from 964/GT1 block)
2) RS (996 GT3RS) type suspension or better
3) 3000 lbs or less
4) Carbon Fibre hood
5) Carbon Fibre decklid with cup car intake
6) NO SUNROOF or SAT NAV and NO CUP HOLDERS (on principle)
7) AC and Radio delete options
8) PCCB (optional)
9) DSG/PDK (optional)
10) No sound deadening junk
11) Interior of doors like the 993 RS but with Alcantara (optional)
12) Carbon Fibre roof ala 2006/7 BMW M6
13) No power windows (optional) (weight saving purposes)
14) Super light weight wheels
15) Light Fly wheel
16) Carbon Fibre fenders
17) Titanium exhaust
18) Light weight Seats (two only of course)
19) Oil Temp gauge

In other words stripped down, light weight RS version and all with an MSRP of $110K

One other note, Carrera GT seats have obviously already passed US certification.

PORSCHE PLEASE MAKE AVAILABLE IN AMERICA!!!!!!!!

Sounds sweet, MJ. I did have one unfortunate realization about the CGT seats though. Those seats have no side airbags built-in (like the 987/997) and I wonder if that's the reason that the CGT no longer met the 2006 airbag standards (no 2006 CGT's were allowed to be imported into the US for model yeat 2006)?

The RS spec is in.

Porsche are going after the Z06 since they feel wounded at their price point technologically speaking and want to overcome the CGT debacle with a halo car.

The RS will have an aluminum body with carbon fiber doors, fenders and deck lid. Light glass all around.

A magnesium 7 speed DSG gearbox with carbon fiber clutches similar to those in the CGT but said to operate flawlessly under computer management.

The front suspension is a unique SLA design (no Mac Pherson strut) which has a magnesium under carriage to support it. The rear suspension center carrier is all magnesium. Suspension control arms are all dedicated aluminum forgings, not castings. Hollow aluminum cast uprights front and rear. Shocks in aluminum alloy with titanium springs. Forged magnesium wheels.

PCCB brakes with lighter 8 piston front calipers CNC machined like the racing RSR and 4 piston rear all with Titanium pistons.

The interior is completely simplified without a center console since there is no shift lever there and there are no options like SAT radio or navigation system to go there. Door panels are carbon fiber with a hollow spot to rest your arm and for storage. No glove box in dash which is a simple curved panel which holds an adjustable for height configurable liquid crystal dash. Carbon fiber seats and steering wheel (with airbag).

The engine is a 3.8 with magnesium used for the crankcase and cam towers. Ti rods.Things like the cam covers are carbon fiber as is the fuel injection system. The parts that touch water are still aluminum (kind of like the new BMW 3 series engine) and special seals throuout control electrolysis between carbon and magnesium parts.

The car is to weigh in at around 2350 pounds. HP rated at 410. AM only Radio and A/C are special lightweight units similar to those developed for the Mc Laren F1 that are options at extra cost.

Car is to be in the $150K range.

Well anyway, I was dreaming the above last night.....maybe people from Porsche read these dream lists???

I doubt an RS will make it here. That is fantasy....It is in complete contrast to Porsche's NA marketing strategy...They have enough trouble selling comfort GT3's...
