If I recall, it's been said that you cannot access this part of the computer with a standard OBDII tool. I read that this is in some protected area, being a critical safety component, and that the dealer must reset it.

There is a group buy over on the 996 (and TT) boards for an Auto Enginuity one for PCs and PDAs. In addition to code readouts, resets, and readiness, I was looking for realtime monitoring of sensors like air temp and O2/fuel trims. The one above also does data logging for a quasi-performance computer. The group buy was for Wed and Thu, but has been extended to Fri due to the demand. The price is $169 for non-CAN and $199 for CAN version. Plus, you need a PDA and serial cable.

Bought an auto enginuity, not happy with it at all. Too slow and cumbersome on my palm and its porsche database is incomplete and nearly useless. Replaced it with a Innova handheld bought at a local auto parts store. Along with the DME diag manual purchased from Porsche as a reference, works fine to display, identify and reset codes.

Air Bag amd ABS systems reset and clear themselves after problem has been corrected. Clearing them with a OBD scanner will not make them go away for more than a couple of minutes, if even that long.

I have had the ABS failure light come on 3 times. All I needed to do was turn the car off and it was reset. All 3 times it happened when going at an angle from a driveway on to a road to avoid hitting the splitter. The leading wheel ends up off the ground and I touch the brakes which sets the failure.
