Default New Lighter BBS Wheels...

We're not into "bling" much but if it saves a few pounds then that's ok by me Anyways, we just got another order of the 3-piece BBS Race wheels, which we usually get with Magnesium centers. This new batch however comes with an even lighter weight alluminium center (in black, standard or gold). What's really cool and that you can't see all that well from the pix is the "machining" they did on the centers to cut the weight out. The spokes on the inside and behind have had "chunks" removed not to mention those holes on the backside. Very cool and now I'm starting to see why they're as light as they are. I love the MAGs which I have on my own car but with these being 1/2 pound lighter there's no reason to go with MAGs anymore. The other difference is that with the MAGs you end up having to use studs (ok by me) instead of lug nuts/bolts as the Magnesium is much much thicker. It has to be... Anyways for these in GT2 sizes (8.5 and 12 x18s) the weight is 19 pounds in the front and 20 in the rear....

Hi Jerseybean,

In 18 inch sizes on the 996s it's absolutely fine to run them with the alluminium centers. They are a super-strong 3 piece wheel. I wouldn't run the magnesium ones though (I do but...). Stick to the alluminium. They're $4400 shipped (in GT2 sizes).

Oh oh I think it'll be around 4400? I'll check tomorrow since I'm not at the shop.

heya Oak, no these are definately a silver finish- not brushed. The centers also "smooth" and not grainy like my older style Mag's....

Alex,

they look sensational in black. As mine have the magnesium center, I had to fix the painting myself. See the difference between the stock rims vs. the BBS ones.

I'm sure the engineering department did their homework, but all the drilling out of the centers sure makes me wonder about structural integrity.

The rims sure are nice looking. For street and pothole duty, I'll stick with a "solid" rim... but for shaving tenths off at the track, these would be nice. Should be less of a maintenance issue compared to the magnesiums.

RS Patrik,

You guys have all the fun over there! I think the stock rims look terrific.

What is the exact weight difference over OEM GT3 wheels? I just got a set, but they seem to be in short supply.Equals long wait. Hopefully the Alum wont crack like the Mag. Enjoy.

Hi Patrik,

That is the most beautiful site I've seen in a while Way to go! I know what you mean about the MAG finish. It's rough and coarse unlike the alluminium which is smooth.

Apart from that fellow putting grease marks on the rear wing, that IS a very pretty picture....

Thanks Alex, They would have to be EXACT GT2 factory offsets to be of any interest thats why I am asking.
