Default Willow Springs times

What would a "respectable time" be in a stock GT3 around Willow Springs? I realize that a lot depends upon the tires and driver, but what is a good time to shoot for, and what do the real "hot-shoes" post?

thanks,

Probably 1:37 - 1:40 is nice with stock tires. A couple of seconds less with R compounds.

The car is probbaly capable of 1:30 in the right hands.

Craig Stanton will turn 1:26 all day long with R-compounds and proper alignment. If you can get into the mid to high 30's you could be considered fast in this car with the aforementioned setup..

Well.....

Cort Wagner did a 1:29 in my car at WSIR but the best I've managed is a 1:32.04 I can run 1:33's 1:34's pretty comfortably with a stock GT3 with R's and the right alignment/set up.

Craig is a buddy of mine and I don't doubt his ability but I think 1:26 would be a bit on the edge....

Kevin, Cort did a 1:30 in mine so that must mean that your car is faster....oh that's right I was in the car so that is worth at least a second and a half

Maybe - how many cheezeburgers did you eat for breakfast?

And of course my car is faster - it's white and we all know the fastest Porsches are white....

That's good to know - at least I have a bit of a head start.

Craig took me for a ride in a Carrera GT at California Speedway - that guy can drive! But for us humans, I should look for anything under 1:40 to start huh?

Chris,

Shoot for the fastest time you can get while staying on the track and not scaring yourself too bad. Anything under 1:40 is a great start. Kevin's times are what you should shoot for, but work your way up to his level. Nothing more fun than seeing improvement over the course of the day! If Craig or Cort or another pro is at the track ask them to take you for a ride so you can see and feel for yourself what your car is capable of.

Enjoy yourself at a pace you are comfortable with, then push/add a few hundred RPM's in each corner each lap and work on consistent braking points. Before you know it you will be dropping time like a rock!

With R compounds, I would say low 1:30s would be good for a non-pro driver.

Just for reference, a 1989 J-stock M3 club racer weighing about 3000 lbs loaded with cage and a 190 HP engine turns mid to high 1:30s (1:37 is typical) on RA1s.

I have been able to squeeze off a 1:30.50, so lets just say 1:31. But am not sure if I can do that again.

Hey Kev, I stopped by the Booth and they said you only came for the day. See ya next year.

Despite that fact that Big Willow is not a very technical track it usually takes people a long time to get fast there. Several weekends at least. A lot of it has to do with just getting used to the high speed turns. You have to work up the nerve to go fast through turn 8; then turns 9 and 1.
Another time reference: experienced 944 spec racers with 130 RWHP often run 1:36 - 1:37. Their secret is to never use the brakes.
