I'm a Kiwi living in Europe (mostly). Back home I grow grapes, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris as part of my rural diversification. The rest is in forestry, olives and bloodstock. The olives are doing damn well.
I am a fan of good German wines. Sadly they are becoming rarer and rarer. For an enterprising New World winemaker, the opportunities are vast. People are walking off their vinyards in Germany and parts of Italy, and I know prime vinyards in desirable parts of Spain that are abandoned. The New World has contributed to the demise of these estates, but strangely their salvation is to be found at the hands of the young guns from Davis and Roseworthy and Stellenboch and Lincoln. Maybe next year I'll talk to some of my VC colleagues and see if we can put something together.

PS I'd like to put Young Gun on a wine label
