Default Anyone tried to put a GT3 CUP exhaust on the GT3?

Can it be done? Is that a good idea?

I just think the looks would be interesting

don't race cars just run straight pipes?

I believe the cup is a straigh pipe no mufflers. The euro Supercup cars run a pipe straight from the cat. Not sure about the versions here, I don't know if they have catsd or not. Fabiani's pipes are essentially the same, cat back no muffler. Nice but loud.

Cup cars do have a muffler with an internal cat component. The cup muffler can be put on the gt3. You need a new bumber and you need to weld two bungs in the cup exhaust pipes right near the tip, because the cup muffler runs only one o2 sensor per bank of cylinders. By the way, the cup muffler is $8000 from Motorsports. Kelly Moss did it for a guy I know.

You also need new headers, since the collector pipe is a different length than the street car's. The cat with the center exit tips is $4500 by itself.

^ wow! that's pricey...i guess if you can afford to play you can afford to pay.

are there any benifits assiociated with running cup car parts on the GT3? i'd imagine there'd be some performance gain.

For a street car in the US, you would be better off with a specialist aftermarket exhaust that is better suited to the conditions and regulatory environment. You could achieve the same look and benefits (maybe more) and remain legal.

I had an interesting conversation some years ago with a 'porsche person'.

Q. "Is the RS(R) exhaust better than the Cup exhaust?"
A. "Yes"
Q. "Can we fit the RS(R) exhaust to the Cup car?"
A. "Yes"
Q. "Then lets do it." (we were talking about a race where the rules were more open than the Supercup)
A. "Well, the RS(R) exhaust develops more power on the RS(R) engine than the Cup exhaust, but on the Cup, the Cup exhaust develops more power than the RS(R) exhaust, we've tried it."
Q. "OK, can we use the RS(R) crankcase breather then?"
A. "Yes"
Q. "and the flywheel?"
A. "Yes"

honestly, its like getting blood out of stone with these guys......

Well, you had better make friends with a race team, they will tell you all about it! I would be breaking the code if I were to explain how to take the bread from their mouths.

If you ask Farnbacher about it, prepare to duck.

Crankcase valve is reported to give you 5 - 10 hp. Costs about $100. I will post part number in a couple of days when I get home. It works by creating a lower pressure in the crankcase. On the Mk 1 you have to machine one end to make it fit but any good shop can do it.

The problem is that you need to pull the gearbox out to get to it. No problem for all you blokes revved up to install a SMF.

The 03-05 Cup already have the breather valve. It can easily be installed on the 02 prior cars. You do not have to pull the gearbox You can also install it from the top by removing the plenum. you do have to machine the valve however for the early car install. PMS has the valve and may aalso have some that are already machined for the early app if You ask. Worked out to @8 hp on the dyno on an 01....
