Default Headliner Removal / Console Delete Pictures

Attached is a photo showing my GT3 with the Console Delete, based on several recent posts about this topic. Enjoy. Worthwhile if your leg rubs against the senter console area.

Attached is also 3 photos showing the roof area after I removed the Headliner to gain headroom. The headliner is removed as one piece and clips into the front and rear header areas. It is tucked into the sides under the trim. It costs ~ $1600 from the Dealer for a replacement so do not cut it. I gained about 1 inch of extra headroom. The roof area looks better than the photos show. There is no foam glued anywhere in the roof area, unlike other 996's.

I'll send photo's after my local Upholstery Shop puts in some foam and black vinyl to make the front header more presentable.

For you tall guys, this is a very doable fix to gain room. Some will disagree.

Cheers/John

PS - Still waiting on my EVO3 seat to arrive. They are not available for about another month. This seat will require some trimming and reupholstery so I'll put together pics of this experience also.

The headliner is quite light, correct?

It doesn't look too bad. I'd remove the dome light & wiring also if it were me.

I removed the headliner to get that inch or room. The headliner weighs ~4 pounds.

I think it looks cool as is ... kinda' cup like. I wouldn't glue anything to it. Might look better with the light pods removed.

Why not keep the headliner, instead get a proper seat, i.e., proper CS seats with custom brackets perhaps???

I'm amazed by how wimpy the window frames look. Didn't PAG claim they substantially strengthed the passenger compartment in those areas in MY 2003?

John, Sorry to say but it doesn't look good, especially in a street car. I could personally not live with that in a street car for that kind of $$$$.

Ciao,
