Nürburgring: Stock GT3 ran 7:49

RSA333,
I believe power to weight ratios are an adequate way to classify cars into similar groups. However, the number of variables involved in who's fastest is far greater than simply a power to weight ratio. Of course, I agree that ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL, a car with a better power to weight ratio will probably be faster around a given track (i.e. a 3100lb GT3 vs a 2900lb GT3). Likewise, in cars that have the same power to weight ratio, the advantage will probably go to the lighter overall car on a twisty circuit and to the heavier car on a speed circuit.
In the end, if you can calculate the "physics" for all the variables, you're probably right, it is simple mathematics.
This is probably not earth shattering news to many people. Perhaps you were just kidding around?
cheers,

Maybe, and nope. The GT2 seems to be faster in the hands of the same driver (ask Bob Rouleau) but the TT is quite a bit slower (in my hands, I traded the TT for a GT3).
Part of the problem is physics, as in linear momemtum = mass X velocity. I cant speak for the GT2, but in the case of the TT, all the extra weight translates to slower in the corners as it tries to go in a straight line. There are a lot of other variables (chassis stiffness, suspension differences, RWD vs AWD) but the TT is a heavy car and feels like it. It is faster in a straight line, I wish I had the turbo motor in my GT3, but the twisties make all the difference.

How could a Manthey 410 GT3 with R-rubber be only 8 secs faster than a stock GT3 on street tires? I would think the tires alone would be good for more than that...

They are not true R rubber. I have those tires and they fall short of the MPSC tire, but are better than the stock tires. I would say they are an in between of an R and an agressive ZR rated tire.
Great tire though, one of my favorites.

the best line in the translation, thanks to Noel:
But that is only the half truth - almost achievement does not play the first violin.
i wish we could ge the same driver to do a gt2 lap

I loved the translation, (thanks Noel!!) it was the funniest use of clashing words I've seen in a while, no wonder they call the site babblefish! Watt, from the info available on the web a stock GT2 is around 6-7 seconds a lap quicker than a stock 3 with both on MPS oem tires. I imagine that there is more room to tune a 2 because of the easy chip & turbo boost etc. Thus a fettled 2 is likely much faster than a fettled 3, as the Matheney itself showed, you can throw a lot of $$ at a 3 and only get a relatively small gain, while the same cash thrown at a 2 would likely make a much bigger gain, but the real question is would we ever be able to use it?
Talking of 'babblefish' this funny little thing came in today......made me smile anyway.

A lot of people quote a 7.54 or sometimes a 7.56 number for the mkII gt3, and folks on this board say that those numbers are not official laptimes from Porsche/Rohrl. (Usually when people compare the GT3 to the 997S citing virtually identical performance)
Anyone know the genesis of the 7.54? Is it simply fabricated?
