Default Break-in procedure

Here's another break-in question. This time with a poll. For arguments sake let's use "the rules" as: keeping the revs under 4,200 for 1,000 miles.

If you have a chance, list your car and elaborate as to how your car performs now, in comparison to how it was when you first got it.

Thanks,

Hey Chris,

I waited until 1,200 miles before I redlined mine... boy that was hard to do!

Performance is great... I can get to ~ 146MPH in 4th gear before my "chicken-personal-rev-limiter" kicks in... I expect it to get better as I get more miles on the engine...

Just north of 3,300 miles now and the car seems to get stronger everytime I drive it!

I've got an 05 GT3. I was really good up to 650 miles. Since then I've had it up to about 7,000 RPM. I've got almost 800 miles on it now.

I did my best to keep it under 4.5k for the first 1,000 miles and was fairly successful. I did have a few blasts to 7k under the 1k mile marker, but not at full throttle. I now have 1,600 miles and the car runs great with no loss of oil. I plan on an oil change as soon as the car comes out of hibernation in a few months.

Tried my best to follow the "rules", but I had a few blasts over 4500 within the first 1000. The engine feels great with 6700 miles and negligable oil use.

Don't be surprised to find that those who let their car fully warm up and then beat the hell out it it have less oil loss issues than those that baby their cars for breakin.

That's one of the things I AM religous about. I make sure my car is completely warmed up (oil temp) before I exceed 4,000 RPM. Thanks to the board -

I think someone should disable the function on the poll that displays the people who voted for each choice. Dealers read this stuff too...

Well tried keeping under 4200 rpm for 500 miles then surrendered. First 500 miles I thought I'm choking the car not going thru the whole powerband and jesus what's 6000 rpm bursts will do if engine is warmed up. Pretty much did the same routine with my old 996 and ran like a dream. Regards. Mike

The GT3 Cup car service manual includes the following break in suggestion:

"We recommend, that new cars and / or newly fitted drive shafts should be run-in for approximately 100 km with a maximum speed of < 200 km/h, and with low torque."

Personally, I think beyond 100km, with the car fully warmed up, you are good to go.

I'd be happy to do it. How? If a moderator is reading this, would you please do it for me?

I'm afraid it is not possible to make that change after the fact.
