GT3 values in say... 4 years

Another interesting fact
notice how many GT3 owners are enthusiasts versus status buyers (the type that usually have garage queens)?
notice how many GT3 owners are on rennlist/other enthusiast forums?
compare that ratio to how many were made, then compare that ratio to the ratio for other 996s.
i would also venture to say that enthusiats are more likely to track their cars drive very hard.
theres your usage statistic right there![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
but that does bring up a very interesting point, how track usage will affect resale value. and how honest people will be about their usage when they sell... hmmph
i think we can agree that a GT3 will have more favourable depreciation than other 996s.

if the car is tracked heavily, it's very hard to hide. for one thing, the underside of the car will be all chipped up even of you never have OTE. after 400 track miles, the belly of my gt3 is all chipped up, even with clear bra all over.

Andrew, I am surprised that you did not chime in with your view of depreciation of the Z8.
Wrong forum for me to start yakking on about those, but as an aside when I bought the Z8 I expected to find a great enthusiast group through the car, and the website I started in support of it, but alas I could count them on the fingers of one hand! (no thumb either!)
It's a car that's been almost exclusively bought as a trophy/garage queen, and so it wasn't till I got the GT3 that I really started to meet fellow 'drivers'. I think this is also why Z8 values are hard to pin down, it is an unusal car and very 'collectible', thus they don't really get used, so when they do come up they tend to be very low mileage and showroom condition.
However I did over 4,000 track miles in my first one, and it was a hoot at the track once I'd applied the right suspension, brakes & swaybars. (imagine a really, really well made 'vette.) I sold it after 20 months & 18K miles, and it cost me around $1K month in depreciation, and as I mentioned above that's about the same as I expect the GT3 will run me after 48-56 months.

Thanks for all your info everyone.
50% would be do able in that time frame.
Also, I beg to differ that in 5 years I won't want one. The GT3 is everything I want in a car. The 997 isn't for me, although I drove one, and fell in love, I think at the track I'd feel differently. I want the purest driving experience I can have. If I had a choice I'd take something like a GT3 Cup or RSR and drive that on the street
Yes, I'm insane, my Cobra has all aluminum or poly bushings, straight exhaust, manual steering etc.. I'm afraid the newer GT3's will offer more electronic aids like PASM or something like Ferrari's Skyhook and E-Diff. And if that's the case, the price of a brand new 997 or 998 GT3 will deter me.
I still lust after the 94 Euro M3's and 993 RS's to this day, but the GT3 is still more of what I want.
Again, thanks for your input. Sounds promising that I'll be a GT3 owner some day

As somebody else said, IMO future values have everything to do with the 997GT3. If it turns out to be a 997S with a body kit and a few extra HP, the 996GT3 will become an instant collector's item. But if the 997GT3 is an improved version of the 996GT3, the 996GT3 will have typical high-end Porsche depreciation. Especially if Porsche continues the current trend of holding/reducing prices on new models, despite the weak dollar.

Hello,
The GT3 introduced in 1999 in Europe has lost significant value so far. I agree it might not be an ideal benchmark since the supply/demand ratio here in the US is different.
To give you an idea here are the used values in northern europe:
- 964 RS (not the cheap RS america version that was imported to the US, this is the real deal) 40,000 to 45,000 euros. They went down to about 26,000 euros 5 years ago as they are very incomfortable on the road. But since the cops in France are enforcing the speed limits like *****, the value went up the roof as it is a favorite among people who track their cars.
- 993 RS (highly desirable IMHO as much more confortable on a daily basis than the RS with power steering and softer suspension, but not imported in the US) 54,000 to 58,000 euros.
- GT3 first generation 65,000 to 80,000 euros (80,000 euros for cars with less than 20,000 miles)
Of course the exchange rate is pretty bad right now, but in a few years it might be different. I hope that in a few years if the GT3s here are still going for a premium here, I could go ****** one in Europe. I spent most of my life there so I know where to look for. Is it reasonable to estimate about $ 5k for shipment and conversion to the US?
If I was fortunate enough to have a GT3 I would hold on to it as everybody mentioned it is the most communicative modern Porsche for the money. I love my Boxster S but I really crave the GT3 engine and chassis feedback.
Enjoy your cars !!!
PS: If anybody is going to a track day with his/her GT3 in the Bay Area I would love to spend a few laps in the passenger seat as dead weight !!!

Renaud-
My "cheap" RS America has lost less value than any other 911 I have ever owned (11 altogether). Original sticker price was something like $52K (USD) in 1993. I was offered $42K (USD) for the car yesterday - 13 years old. The car was built in 1992, has 50K miles on it.

93 911 Turbo S2 (only one of 20-25 in the US)

RSA333,
I am sorry it sounded offensive but it was not my intent. The RS version in Europe was a non compromise race car that is why many new owners dropped it as it was unbearable on normal street. I did not imply that the RS america was a bad car but it was more like a lightweight version of a 964 C2. You could still get power windows, power door locks, sunroof, etc. In the RS euro spec you don't even have a real door panel, to close the door you have a small piece of leather to pull to close the door. No power anything, no sunroof, etc.
The RS america held its value pretty well as there were not that many around.

Well I am maybe the newest guy here in the GT3 market. I haven't even picked my car up next. But I can't imagine this car will lose 50% of it value over 4 years.
I just sold my 96 993 4S for 52k. I was the third owner, it had 35k miles on it. The original sticker was 71k...Thats what? 25% of its value over 9 years?

Well I find it hard that in 4 years it'll fall 50% too. My 996 fell 50% in 6 years so with limited number of GT3's in the US and being the 1st it'll garner better resale value-maybe lose about 49% : ). Love the car!!!! Laguna Seca baby Feb 13th with Greenflag-woohoo!!!!! Regards. Mike
