Pictures GT3 Cup Car
I was at Eurosport this afternoon ( a local porsche race prep shop/ NA) and saw this GT3 Cup Car that they just finished graphics work on. When I opened it's door, I was really surprised on how easy/lighweight to swing it open and close!! The inside of it was plastic/composite(pic attached too). I could only wish to experience being in the cockpit of that car. I'm not an expert but the techs said it's a 2005 model. Luckily I brought my camera with me and took some pix of it and the other toys around. Of course the last pix was taken at my garage

Mike,
You can order a car from PMNA. Their information in on the Porsche web site under motorsports. They take a list for orders in January. In March or April the get their car allocation from Germany (30 cars +/- the past 3 years, at it was 10-12 before that). They then match up the list with the number of cars. Usually there are 2 to 3 times as many on the list as cars. The cars go first to people racing in professional series, then to people in order on the list. Once they allocate you a car they send you a contract to sign (a must buy) and you put up a $30,000 non refundable deposit. The kicker is they don't have a price in the contract, you pay whatever it is. They do give you a comfort letter with a price range and a "not to exceed" number ($135,000 in 2005). 2005 996 Cup cars were priced at $118,000 on the ground in Germany, plus shipping, import duties, shipping equipment and your local state taxes. Cost to delivered to your door was between $130,000 and $140,000 depending on where you lived.

Mike,
Except for the graphics these cars come off the airplane looking just like that. Remove the shrink wrap, check the fluids, nut and bolt, replace the rain tires and you could take it to the track. Most shops change some suspension and alignment settings, reinforce some body part attachments, add all their 'secrets' and then start testing.
Opeining and closing a door on those cars impresses everyone. If there is a customer in the offices and one of the guys starts starts up a cup, if they have never heard one, they want to know what kind of car is that? Very nice piece of work.

JCM & Laura, Thanks for the informative replies. That is very interesting. I will go to that website that you mentioned just to educate myself more on these specialized cars, not that I can afford them I would love to tour the factory specially the motorsports side.
