What type of gas have you been using in your car? I have been using unleaded premium, but it is only 91 octane. On the inside of my gas tank filler cap (?) it suggests 93.

There is a ratty little gas station on the corner of De Soto and Vanowen. Just take De Soto off of the 101 inland for a mile or so and it is the first gas station on your left after you cross Vanowen. The pump is hidden in the back corner. I bring a few 5 gallon cans so I don't have to drive down there every week!
I swear, the things we do.......

Only use 98 octane, sometimes 100 where possible.

Is that a RON rating? In the US, our pump octane is usually a lower figure as it is the average of RON and MON. Your 98 ROM is approximately equal to our 93 (R+M)/2.

I'm new to these forums and about to pull the trigger on an '05 GT3 but a long time member of Audiworld. This topic has been discussed thoroughly, especially on the B5 Biturbo forum. Thought I'd pass this link on about additives. I've use this stuff and it does work, mostly keeping the ECU from pulling timing, not making more power. Best alternative to race gas I can find. Hope this isn't a repost. FWIW.

Here's a couple links.

93 Amoco ultimate, or only 92 if that's all that is available around here. Definitely likes it better than 91- have used it on all my later 911's. Seemed to make a noticeable difference changing from 91 to 93- maybe in my head to justify the higher price???

Seems like you guys on the East coast have a bit of an advantage when it comes to octane levels -

What about the rest of you guys in California? Is everyone else just using plain old 91?

Mostly 91. 96 at Sears Point (their mix of 100 & 91), 50/50 mix of 91 & 100 when I go to Thunderhill.

You definately notice the difference with the higher octane, but it seems to me that anything over 96 (like straight 100) is a waste of money as the ECU isn't programmed to take advantage of that.
