I'm talking about the excess rubber that gets built up - especially on the inner half of the tires. This rubber seems to cause rough running at high speeds.

Is it possible or desirable to scrape this rubber off at the end of the day?

Yes, I think so. I USED to pull over to let the Radicals by, and ended up rolling through the marbles and picking up all sorts of rolling vibrations. I let the damn Radicals fend for themselves now!
I have used a pressure washer to get some of those goobers off, and have seen people using screwdrivers at the track..

Wire brush works well too. most of them will come off within a few hot laps

its difficult to avoid pulling over when its time for a cooling-off lap.......... I agree, not very nice to end up where all the rubber etc.... collects, but I havn´t had any problems though.
