Crown Porsche in Charlottesville had an arctic GT3, xenons, about $105K MSRP, 4,800 miles and Porsche certified to 100k miles, it was listed on ebay - auction ended Oct 23 with no bidders, buy it now price was $92K. Ebay item number: 2495730161.
The NYTimes had a listing for a private seller of a 04 GT3 with 3K miles, Watt posted a thread about it a couple of weeks back - asking price was $90k, car was apparently owned by a dentist who is also a PCA instructor.
Miller Motorcars, Ferrari, Aston and Bentley dealer here in Greenwich, last week had a 04 GT3, arctic, 780 miles only, listed on their website at $98k, apparently they want $94K for it.

I am no expert, I have owned only 3 Porsches, but based on my brief seat time in a 3 it is the best car I have driven, and I believe it wll depreciate less than any other 996 model.

Please point out where in FF's post he states anything about a dealer...
Finn didn't say that his "insider" is a dealer and I happen to know that his "insider" is NOT a dealer...
Look it doesn't matter (to me at least) if the 997GT3 does or doesn't come to America, I'll be enjoying this one and then worry about the 997 GT3 if and when it does arrive. The same goes for depreciation, this baby will always be in my garage for as long as humanly possible and hopefully the next 997, 998 GT3 or whatever they decide to call it, may be parked along side it...

Just consider that this year the GT3 was available brand new from the dealers. I've been told that only 101 05' GT3 will be sold in US, and they are already being allocated.
By the middle of next year it won't be possible to buy a brand new GT3.
At that point we could talk about GT3 appreciation from their current market value which seems to be on the low 90s for no option cars to high 90s for nicely optioned cars.
Anyway I could be wrong, and my friend expecting GT3 to fall on the low 70s next year due to a new Corvette Z06 could be right.

I have a novel idea, why not just enjoy driving the car and not worry about. If all you think about is how much it is or will be worth, you miss out of the reason for having it to begin with.

i don't buy a car as an investment, because in general, cars are depreciating assets, and only a fool would 'invest' in a depreciating asset.
that said, there are a few anomolies in the car world, most notably, ferrari, and mabye certain other SUPER exotics in extremely limited production.
most car companies suffer from greed, which in turn causes overproduction, which really f*cks up residuals for the buyers. porsche is an excellent example of this, they make great cars, but they just make too many of them. which is nice, because it doesnt create market premium conditions, but it also isnt great for depreciation.
i think they should still try to inflate value for their halo cars, like the CGT, but it looks like they messed tht up too. people are taking 80k+ baths on the car, and alot of people are bailing out. i doubt they can sell all 1500 at MSRP around the world.

Couldn't agree more with CodeRed- and as a kid in junior high school lusting after the Ford GT at LeMans in the '60's, I find the new Ford GT very "cool." NJ- maybe in a couple years they'll be priced near our GT3's!

Flying Finn - Like you I am not allowed to reveal who I talk to. Assuming your insider is correct, do we know WHEN a 997 GT3 will come to North America? I have no doubt that ROW will get them in a year or so, but it took five years for the GT3 to come to these shores ...

Bob,
Unfortunately I have no idea when, I wish I did.
BTW, I agree with some of you guys when you talk about just enjoying your car and don't worry about depriciation etc.
Car is almost never a very good investment, if you concider the money factor. If however you think it as an investment to your enjoyment, then it can be hell of an investment!
Same thing with mods etc.
I never understand these people who don't mod their car becasue then the next owner might not like them etc.
I'm always much more interested in current owner of my car and what he things/likes.
Athough since my 993s next owner is my son, maybe I should think little bit of him... Nah, I won't, and besides, he loves the sound of 911 with open exhaust, not to mention the stiff ride. He thinks it rocks!
