It can be done... so long as you don't have a rollbar or fixed back seats (GT3 seats).

I just, I mean just, got mine back with rear seats. I bought the car knowing that I would put back seats in, and I am very happy that I did. The only safety issue would be if you had one piece GT3 seats that would restrict your access to the back seats.

I read here that it could be done, pulled up the carpets on another GT3, and looked over the parts diagram. All of the threaded bosses appeared to be in place but plugged on a GT3. What we didn’t realize, was that there is a bracket on the inner fender liner that is NOT welded onto the GT3. You could do belts for a car seat without it, but in order to have the pivot for the outer seat back, you’ll need to weld on a bracket. To see a picture, search here for a post from someone that removed them from a back seatless 996 for a little bit of weight savings.

The smart thing would be to find a track guy taking all the stuff off of a 996 and buy everything. The supercool GT3 rear panel can remain, or you could swap it to someone giving you the seats….
