Thanks for the information.
The issue which I would like to avoid is the problem becoming "Famous" without an explanation.
It is a pity your OPC did not actually tell you what the problem was possibly caused by
It may be a completely different cause as compared to the standard 996.
As John says the engine is somewhat different, so what is the common denominator?
However in the end I can see all the 996 series being lumped together and owners selling their cars in 5 or so years time, being asked this question by every potential purchaser. Makes great fodder for the magazine writers in the coming years as well.
I have sent some feelers out into other Porsche communities in other countries to find out what they are seeing and to reputable repair shops I have worked with, to get their input.
