Default $115k for "mint" 2001 GT2

Does this sound like an unusual deal? Or does it simply reflect the current market conditions? If so, it seems one can pick up a low mileage GT2 for not much more than a loaded 997S.

I did not know there was 01 GT2. And clearly this is an 01 model because there is no glove box.
I believe this must be a 911 TT that has been modified well. The brakes appear to be steel not PCCB (pretty cool hey?)

I would run the vin with Porsche to check if this is really a late 01 GT2

The GT-2 came out for model year 2002. I think the launch was sometime in June 2001. Might have been a little earlier.
The advert shows no VIN so how can it be checked?
They could be saying that it is a 2001 build but unlikely.
I have to agree with AW that this may well be a GT-2 lookalike. I know it is very easy to make a 996TT look like a GT-2 from the outside.
Velly suspicious.
I did some checking. The GT-2 was shown at the Detroit 2001 motorshow and was released onto the German/Swiss markets in May 2001 as a 2002 model.

The vin is WP0ZZZ99Z1S695148. Not sure what we can do with it?
Could be a really early euro GT2? But then it is surprising that the interior is still to the 01TT spec.
Ask the seller a picture from the top. If there is a sun roof, this is a 996 TT

I cannot find any evidence of a model year 2001 GT-2 in Europe yet!!!
Yes this is a ROW model and not a US model so a background check on the importer etc is in order.
I found the label (duh!!!) in the photos which says the type is 996-840. I cannot check mine because it is Sportec version no 30 and the label has been removed.
The country code is not that clear to see where it was originally meant for but I guess it looks most like C00 which means Germany.

996-840 is the type designation for the GT-2. The VIN is clearly a ROW 2001 version so it seems maybe the very early GT-2s delivered in Germany and Switzerland from May to June 2001 inclusive were in fact 2001 models.
I will try and confirm.

Okay I have confirmed there was a batch of ROW model year 2001 GT-2s. Here is the VIN of one for sale in Sweden.
WP0ZZZ99Z1S695097
So clearly this is a genuine model year 2001 ROW (Federalised) Porsche GT-2. Grey market import.
Any potential buyer would have to look at what modifications have been carried out and by whom to Federalise this GT-2.

As far as I know the GT2 came to North america as a 2002 model with PCCB brakes as std equipment (ask me how I know!). From what I have seen a 2002 fetches around 140-150K and is under warranty for another 2 years. I would not fool with a grey market import for the difference in money.

Dear Bob,
You are correct the GT-2s to the USA were all model year 2002 but of course some were built in calendar year 2001.
I checked the press release from PAG and the first GT-2s arrived in the USA in the fall of 2001.
Just for info the ROW 2001 models are all fitted with steel rotors.

Three things:

1- The car has no rear bumperettes.

2- "ZZZ" is always a non-US or Canadian car.

3- The top sticker in the door sill area was placed by the company which had Federalized the car. This is required for cars originally not conforming to US standards.

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it usually say GT2 on the instrumentation, right on the tachometer to be exact??? There's also no front lip on the bottom of the bumper, which means this car definitely isn't mint.

BTW, anyone else try the link just now and notice the pictures don't show up? Broken links=Broken auction..

The link is still good as of now. The instrument cluster was changed from Kph to mph. They probably bought a plain 996 cluster instead of a dedicated GT2 version. Pretty typical of conversion companies. Not sure about the front lip. It almost looks painted.

Dear Stig,
The instrumentation is certainly very different to mine but there may have been a change from 2001 to 2002. I have not looked at things to deeply in detail as of yet.
The front lips are often removed because they tend to scrap very easily. However looking closely at the pictures I think it is there. Hard to see I agree.
My main concern is the end of the advert saying that this is a US Spec car taken on European delivery.

"2001 PORSCHE GT2 TURBO. Perfect condition one owner Arizona GT2. This is a US Spec. car built for an American taking a European Delivery. From 2001 to 2003, all the GT2s are the same, there is no difference between Euro cars and US cars. This is the same car as the 2002 North American-Spec car".

It is clearly a German version GT-2 with a ROW VIN. This is NOT a US Spec GT-2.

My 03 GT2 cluster doesn't say GT2... I believe this is a GT3 feature
