Default GT3 Mk2 brakes on a GT3 Mk1?

Guys,

I might have the opportunity to purchase the steel brakes (calipers, discs and pads) off a salvaged Mk2 GT3. Does anyone know if they are a straight bolt on for the Mk1 and if there are any other parts that I might need for this conversion? I'm thinking brake cylinder, brake hoses and bias valves.

It would be highly appreciated if somebody with the PET software could check.

Engine, chassis and gearbox are total loss but are there any other parts that that I should try to get my hands on from this Mk2?

Ciao,

Johannes E.

This is quite a common upgrade to overcome the Achilles Heel of the Mk1, its brakes.

Having had a quick look at the parts included in the upgrade kit offered by JZ MAgtech here in the UK, it looks like a straight bolt on.

Good luck and let me know if you feel the differance!!

Here's what I found from PET that is different for the Mk2:

brake discs (R&L)
screws that mount the front disc to the wheel hub (2 per disc), Mk2 are shorter (front only)
backing plates (R&L)
calipers (R&L)
pads
vibration dampers
caliper bolts (2 per)

front & rear brake lines to the calipers are the same, except for PCCB equipped cars

speed sensors (2) front only, rears are the same

3 of the pressure lines that run between the master cylinder and the ABS controller are different parts, so you may want to just grab all of them and replace. I assume this is to compensate for the larger volume of fluid that has to flow to the larger calipers.

Master cylinder and brake booster are the same but the vacuum of the brake booster is different

That's all I could find.

Thumbs up

I have just completed the brake upgrade on my Gt3 Mk1. My initial thought was to go to the Mk2 system however Porsche Motorsport sell the Carerra Cup setup much cheaper than the Mk2. The conversion included rotors, calipers and pads (I went for front only) and the brake lines and master cylinder were ratained from standard.

The results were great on the track with none of the fade or rotor distortion experienced with the old setup.

PMH,

Do you happen to have the Motorsport part numbers for the Cup conversion?
