Question '05 specs & options for GT3

Anyone know of any changes to the '05 model GT3? Same colors and other options, too?

I understand there are no changes from MY04...perhaps they will offer additional colors??? This is of course speculation since I have not seen an '05 order guide...

Red face With the Euro V dollar

I don't think Porsche has enough hedge with the Dollar v. Euro like BMW and Merc and even Audi with VW. Porsche will have to raise prices, it makes Economic sense.

cosmos: Is there some recent change in Porsche's hedging that makes you think that? Porsche was touting that they were pretty much hedged to/thru 2007 as of late last year.

Steve:

2007 is relativly short in comparison to BMW and Merc. Porsche needs to raise prices regardless now, as in ASAP to keep profits inline and investors happy.

See the thing is they may well be hedged till 2007, but what happens after that if the US dollar does not rebound in time for 2005? Porsche needs two years of hedging at least in order to break even.

They will ultimatly have two choices, both difficult but must be done, the proverbial pulling of the banaid if you will.

First is raise prices slowly, but surely faster then they would have normaly done in order to have prices where they need them to be to return a greater profit per car now (inflation and cost of doing business, you always have to make more money then last qtr), or they can keep prices were they are, try to lower there costs elsewhere and still make a quality product, at which time when 2006 rolls around, they ahve to sky-rocket the prices of the cars to match or in most cases beat their loss.

BMW and Merc and even VW are relativly ok cause they have Factory's in the USA so while they are not ammune to the devaulation of the dollar they are more cushioned by it and can take a greater beating. BMW has already done TWO, yes TWO prices increases for 2004 cars and will do another for 2005 cars. So they are taking the slow bandaid approach.

Merc is so in bed with Chrysler it dont matter.

That is my thoughts, take it with a grain of salt.

cosmos: Given that the 997 prices haven't risen much compared the 996 (or possibly even dropped comparing base equipment) and the new Turbo S could be considered a bargain compared to a similiarly optioned Turbo I think Porsche is taking the bet the dollar will recover by 2007. Or that's gonna be one painful bandaid removed in 2006. Seriously, Porsche has stressed they are looking to reduce production costs as one way to address the pricing pressure. With Germany having the highest labor rates in the EU we'll probably seem more non-German production of major components like the GT2/3/Turbo engine cases from Spain.
