Last time I was at the Glen (4 weeks ago), I was on MPSC on the stock sizes. My car has the 8 degrees rear spoiler shims. 3.5 front camber and 2.5 rear camber. 0.30 degrees toe in per side.

I was tapping the brakes at turn 2, and then full throttle up to the chicane (bus stop). I was at the engine fuel cutoff (redline) in 4th gear at the second 1/3 of that back straight, shifting to 5th and braking conservatively at 156mph indicated (stock pads and stock brake fluid). A buddy of mine timed me at 2:22. A cup car was running 2:14 ( I timed it). The fastest car on the group was a 69 911 with a GT3R body kit at 2:08.

On the second day I got a flat at turn 4.

At Lime Rock this weekend, I talked to few guys running the Dunlop SSR. They all liked the tire.

I was running on Kumho ECSTA V700, and definitely I don't recommend this Kumho for any track event.

I would be most interested in a side by side comparisson test of the 3 tires. (The ultimate Corsa, MPSC & the new Dunlops) Lynn, do you fancy doing a three way test for us, to make sure all is the same in the ambient reading etc?

A club racing G class 3.0 liter 911 SC qualify at Watkins Glen club race at 2:14.5.

Amazing Huh! As fast as a slow driven cup car. These club racers are amazing.

We have done the comparison between the Dunlop and MPSC. Both tires at full tread depth and new. The tests were back to back on the same car, same conditions, same set up, same drivers. GT3 was stock with stock ride height and -2.0 camber all around.
The MPSC is 3 seconds quicker at WG, 1 sec quicker at Summit point, and 0.75 secs slower at LRP. The MPSC is likely spower at LRP as the track is very bumpy and the Dunlop sidewall is much more compliant. This is also the reason that the Dunlop is slower at WG. It is because there is too much movement in the sidewall in the high loaded corners.
I will be testing shaved Dunlops at the LRP club race this weekend. We expect them to be faster than the full tread version, and lap times should be improved by 0.5-1.0 seconds which is an eternity at LRP.

Regarding the comparison of the G class car to the cup car,.....if the G class driver drove the cup car, the lap time would be in the 2:00-2:02 range.

The Dunlops also become faster as the tread wears down, but the MPSC seam to be rather stable during their lifetime with fall off toward the end. The Dunlop will be discarded because of visual wear before its grip is gone.

I'm interested in what someone said earlier in this thread re. heat cycles for the MSPCs. How many do people figure they have in them, before they lose their stickyness? Also, I would note that the MSPCs are completely useless, if not outright dangerous, in the rain...at least on a GT3 with no traction control...I speak from experience as me and turn 2 at Mosport got up close and personal a few weeks ago in the rain...not fun.

Lynn:

What hot temp do you run the Dunlop SSR? I will be running them tomorrow for the first time on a 2000 996.

re MPSC heat cycling, ring Michelin yourself and ask for the motorsport dept. I did, and they told me there is no heat cycle limit, just use them till the tread is worn down to the marker, and change them out. I rang them because I had approaching 50 heat cycles on them, and was wondering why they seemed to be ok, when everyone said they should be shot after 20 or so heat cycles.

What that means is I got 7 full track days, plus the journeys to & from the track, and a couple of canyon runs out of my tires. That is 900 track miles in a total of 3,000 miles driven, but I am very careful on the street, and slightly overinflate the tires if I have to use the freeway so as not to over wear the inside edges. Total cost is around $0.40 a mile, which I personally I think is good value for such an awesome tire, and living in the desert of SoCal rain, the tire's one downfall, isn't a big issue for me.

An excellent tire, but doesn't have the right sizes for GT3s.
