there are two flavors of four post lifts. the most common flavor is the "C Channel" design where the mechanicals of what moves up and down is INSIDE each of the four columns. the less common flavor are the solid post designs that have a large "collar" (for lack of a better word) that moves up and down OUTSIDE each of the four columns.

the latter is way more structurally sound and has better safety features based on my extensive but non-scientific research.

are the two i've narrowed my search to.

I have a 4 post lift in my garage. I'm happy with it, but after using it for a couple years now, I can see it would have been better to get a 2 post lift that supports the car at the jack lift points and allows changing wheels without jacking up the car. I understand they are no more expensive and require the same amount of ceiling height.

Where can you get the two post lift that you described?

I have a lift called Doublepark by Cytech. Its pretty good. You can't park cars that are very tall if ceiling is below 10 feet in height. I only park sportscars on it and under it. Its rated for 7000 pounds.

Automotive Service Equipment have a good selection of lifts (also the cheapest place I could find a Bend-Pak)

Code Red,
The BendPak in Jason's post is an example of the 2 post lift to which I referred. There are many other brands. I've seen them advertised in auto magazines. I'm sure you could find them by doing a search thru Google. If you change tires/wheels frequently, this is the way to go.
Let us know if you get one.
John
