Is this just an 'attention to detail' issue that Porsche has a problem with on all its 996 models or is it specific to the GT3? What gives? It's the only issue that seems to repeatedly come up on an otherwise fantastic driving machine.

My dealer told me that it would be necessary to bring my Turbo in to have the alignment checked after a few thousand km. He suggested that they change. But it could also have been his recognition that the factory doesn't get it right. I don't know.

I do know though that when the car went back to Stuttgaht with complaints bout the handling they then did get the alignment spot on. These cars are very sensitive to being set up just right.

I believe performance oriented cars like the GT-3 whose handling is very sensitive to alignment, should have an alignment done by the dealer as part of the dealer prep. I am a fanatic about my Cup car's alignment. Race teams do an alignment before each race. If it is adjustable, it can move.

Racers set up their cars anyways, that is perhaps why Porsche puts these cars out with less attention to the setup as setting up is part of racing, just like checking oil level is to the average car owner. For the non racing driver, the GT3 even with slightly off alignment will do fine in normal driving, but for racing or tracking, it is always best to have the car checked top to bottom, IMO

Manufactures only align a very small percentage of cars produced for quality control purposes. Cars like the gt3 with a large amount of adjustabilty tend to be 'all over the place'. It's a good idea to ocassionaly have your alignment checked as part of your track prep.

If people are paying $100,000 for a car.

The car must be aligned to exact factory speicifications before leaving the factory.

There is no excuse!!!

No kidding?? No wonder how just about any car I buy ends up with chewed-up tires in no time.
