You could also consider the 996 Turbo: a little less refined than the 997.1 Turbo and supposedly also with less lag in the non-X50 version. I really enjoy mine but am still lusting after a 996.1 GT3 in red.

This month's Octane magazine has a comparison of 996 GT3 vs Turbo. You can easily read it with Readly.

In general, the 997 platform is much improved vs. the 996. Even the 997 GT3 RS is much more friendly to drive on the street vs. 996 GT3.
Choosing of 6GT3 vs. 7Turbo is more of an emotional decision. If you want comfort clearly turbo is the way to go. If you want a precision instrument that is suited for the track clearly 6GT3 is the better option.
You can't lose either way.

...I daily drive my GT2 3 seasons of the year (damn Canadian winter) and it's comfortable, reliable and wouldn't want to be behind the wheel of anything else..so yes they make great daily drivers

Rodney is right about bad roads. It sucks, but that's what the Cayenne and Macan are for, which still kind of sucks. What seems to suck even more are some of the other drivers.
