Default Brake Cooling

Hi

DOes anyone have any instructions on how to change the standard ducts? Mine have been ground, and need replacing.

I also have the extra cup car ducts, does anyone know how to fit these also?

Thanks Sean

Take care with the cup car ducts, I just tried fitting them yesterday. They are the same size as the OEM GT3 ducts, but the air exits in a larger area, which looks designed to cool a larger disc. On the OEM setup this will send most of the air out below your disc, giving less cooling than the OEM one.

Macfly

Thanks

The Ducts I got, seem to have come in three pieces. A duct that looks like the standard ones which clips in place. An extra duct that is like a large scoop but doesn't appear to have any fixing points.

There is also a piece of metal, polished in appearance, that is a square sahpe slightly curved.

Anyone any ideas where these go? My dealer is trying to get me fitting instructions but is having difficulty.

As for the cup car ducts been larger. I see your point, but surely more air flow into the wheel arch area has to be a good thing.

Cheers Sean

I also fitted my Cup Car brake ducts last night. They are very easy to install. There are a handful of little plastic tabs that grabs on to the control arm and 2 plastic "latches" that snaps together behind the control arm.

The Cup Car ducts will direct more air than the stock GT3 ducts...not a huge amount but a good improvement.

Here are some pics.

Ducts side by side.

Interesting. I had to change one of the ducts on my GT2 (now sold) and it (the replacement) looked exactly like the cup car duct, rather than the GT3 duct.

Default disc diameter?

The GT2 ducts are the same as the Cup & RS ducts from my understanding. The PCCB discs are slightly larger, and I imagine the Cup's racing discs must be a little larger too. Here is a simple diagram of what I saw when I fitted the Cup/GT2 ducts onto my GT3 yesterday.

The PCCB and iron front rotors on a GT3 are the same diameter (and the same as the '04 Cup car rotor diameter). The rears are a different between PCCB and iron though.

Cup discs are 350mm front/330mm rear just like the stock brake discs.

up discs are 350mm front/330mm rear just like the stock brake discs.
Wonder why they make the ducts to blow air out under the discs then??

I am not sure that the difference in air direction is all that much. The picture with the 2 side by side isn't great because the GT3 one has already formed from being on the car and the Cup Car duct is new so they are sitting on the floor skewed slightly different.

On the car, it just looks like it gathers a bit more air with deeper lower guides that feeds to a bit more air to the hub. I am not sure that it feeds air up or down more.

Hi Guys

Below is a picture of what I purchased. The metal piece there are actually 2 of those. As you can see I have 2 pieces like fuse had. Also I have the 2 large pieces of plastic which are described as GT3 Brake Cooling Extension (Part 996.341.491.90), the metal piece is described as GT3 Brake Cooling Plate (Part 996.504.251.90). The replacement ducts are described as GT3 Brake Air Spoiler (Part 996.341.118.90 (RH) and 117.90 (LH))

I am awaiting installation instructions from my dealer.

It appears that the GT3RS actually comes with the Cup car ducts already fitted.

Cheers Sean

Hi Sean,

So the Brake Cooling Extension and Brake Air Spoiler is used in addition to the Cup Car Brake Ducts? I would love to see the instructions as well as pictures when you have them installed.

Thanks!

The parts 996.341.491.90 and 996.504.251.90 are no longer listed in the 2004 Cup catalog, at least I can't find them in the front brake ventilation section.

In the '04 Catalog there are two large ducts 996.575.231.91 (LH) and 996.575.232.91 (RH) that are shown next to parts number 996.341.118.90 (RH) and 996.341.117.90 (LH) that SeanGT3RS pictured. These ducts look like they attach to the chassis and direct air to the upper part of the disc. Could it be these are a new design to replace the metal plate and plastic duct pictured?
