Default Rant — Where has the Value Gone?

I don't know about you, but something is dreadfully wrong here. Our beloved 996 GT3s are sorely under-apreciated.

The 996 GT3 was hailed by every automotive magazine as the last analogue 911, akin to the legendary 1973 911 RS. A supercar. In fact, even better that the '73 RS! We have air conditioning.

No other 911 captured the spirit of driving like the 996 GT3. It is pure, it is simple, it is a sports car touched by the hand of God—the pinnacle of driving expression! I fool you not! Add to that the limited numbers, less than 1000 exquisitely fine crafted examples of automotive perfection in North America. Yet, resale on these technological giants pales to their successors, built in even greater production numbers, some, yes you must believe it, with sunroofs! Oh, the indignity! Let us not forget the ever expanding nanny features to make the novice a prince of the road. I speak of no less than Porsche Stability Management and such things as Launch Control. Don't even talk to me about PDK with the Braun electric shaver nubbin!

Where is the love?

Do you think that Lane Assist can be far off?

Where is the love?

I will tell you. I have spent countless nights and innumerable hours doing research and analysis. Never mind Artificial Intelligence! I have cracked the problem the old fashion way with slide rule and Excel. My findings will be published in the automotive addition of Nature soon (I hope). But I will spill my guts to you now so that you need not wait. The results even astounded me! I rechecked, recalculated, and re-confabulated everything and time and time again with the same confounding results.

I hope you are sitting down, for you will be gripping the arm's of your chair, white knuckled, in rage. Well, only if you have managed to read this so far.

It all boils down to coffee mugs. Yes, you hear me right. Did I not tell you that you would be knocked off your feet?

If you don't believe me, search for yourself. Try and find a coffee mug that honors the proud 996 GT3.

It simply doesn't exist...

You can buy a mug with every other Porsche model you can think of. I even saw one with the Porsche tractor. There are 356s, 944s, 914, Turbos of every model year. Yes, you can even find the lowly 996 Carrera. GT3s? Oh, there are 993, 997, 991, and the latest 992 variants to your hearts desire. 996? Hardly!

As amazing as it sounds, THIS IS WHY OUR 996 GT3s ARE VALUED SO LOW! We never got our mug!

Ah, but I did find something. It is little more than a wall mural with paint splattered on it. Look at it! Nothing more than what a million monkeys with paint guns could come up with on a sunny afternoon. An abomination? YES! Is this a tribute? I say NO!

I hope you are as outraged as I am. Is there nothing we can do? I say not!

I ask you, one and all, climb to your highest window, throw the sash open wide, and lean out. Lean out and shout to the world. Scream it!

"I am mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it any more!"

Then...

Throw your coffee mugs out window in protest.

After that go have a beer.

Have a great weekend everyone!

It was a poor tactic on my end in convincing you to sell…

Assuming I have the mug, does that entitle me to make an offer?

I can't! My car has been quarantined for a year now with a long list of things to do while the engine is out. Rumor has it that it may be ready next week. In that case I will be doing just that, taking a long, long drive. After the 1,000 mile break-in, all hell can break loose.

This was done at a local shop. They did not do anything with the lower end of the engine, just the heads. I don't think they documented the process, but I will ask. If I had the extra garage space and a lift I would have probably done this myself, had I know this would take as long as it did. In which case, a 3.8 liter upgrade and full rebuild could have been in the cards, but after all the waiting I will be happy to get it back as a stock motor purring as it should.

THANKS!

You may have singlehandedly bumped up the value on our beloved GT3s with that link (yes, I just bought one).

Yea there's a lot more of them too. I've bought some very cool shirts there. It's a place where artists can submit an publish their work, then Redbuuble takes care of the printing.

How about really bitchin' face masks? (Here in California the nannies continue to make us where them)

Here's a bunch: Porsche and GT3 masks

There's even a 996 GT3 RS mask

Or here is a GT3 blueprint mask, or shirt, or coffee mug too I suspect 996 GT3 blueprint
