Default GT3 spoilers

Can someone please clarify why some 996 GT3s have the straight spoilers out back and why some have what I call the "swoopy" spoiler? Was it a difference between MK.1 and MK.2, between owner preference, or between countries? TIA

The Mk1's have the "boomerang" rear spoiler and the Mk2's have the "straight" rear spoiler. Keep in mind that no GT3's with the boomerang were ever sold in the US, so if you see any they are actually "regular" 996's with the Aerokit.

The MK1 GT3 wing used on the first GT3 and the 99-01 996 aerokit... aka; The Folded Banana, The Flying Taco...

The MK2 GT3 wing used on the 04 GT3 and the 02-04 996 aerokit.

LOL! I love the nicknames!

Is it possible to just swap spoilers on a Mk. 2??

I don't see why not...however it's my understanding that the "new" one is all around a better spoiler. Not to mention the fact if you change the rear wing, I believe you must change the front fascia also, as they work together as a package. Just my $.10

So, we've had the boomerang, flying taco, whale tail, duck tail... Let's think of a name for the current GT3 tail?

any thoughts?

How about "picnic table" for the current one?

how about "boring"? Uh oh... I feel a hot, firelike sensation coming on me

Though it might be a better performer, I love the "swoop" spoiler on the Mk. 1s. I think it's just plain sexy! The new one doesn't detract from the gorgeous 996/GT3 looks whatsoever, so don't get me wrong here, I just think the "swoop" makes it look drop-dead gorgeous!

...and I'm still trying to get a ride in either! LOL
