The difference is that they do not use the salt/sand combination that they do in North America. They use only salt. So it isn't so obvious. But they will put tons of salt down even at the possibility of a little frost overnight. They will start quite early. This can make it almost impossible to avoid and impractical to put a car away for the winter at the first sign of salt as is common in North America.
