Default Santa Arrives Early

A couple months ago I opened a posting on Rennlist about a Yokohama sponsored contest to provide a story about your driving experience in your Porsche. Rennlist member Robb M was the thread starter and what a great guy. I entered and WON and Robb made the connection to Yokohama that netted me a new set of Advan tires for my GT3. I hadn't heard anything about them being sent so it was like Christmas when Fedex pulled up and unloaded the new rubber. So cool. Thanks to Robb and Yokohama.

Hot tires make a cool Christmas "gift".

Enjoy!

Then again, maybe you should have gotten snow tires!

Yokohama gave me options and the choice was tough. The tires on my summer Cayenne wheels are nearing the end but I have winter wheels with Yokohama tires that go on until April. My 964 just got new tires but I went with a less expensive tire because I expected other possible expenses before the car takes any serious drives. My Datsun has nearly 40 year old tires on it but the car is in a renewal process that will require other TLC before I get to the tires. Those tires are so square it's like driving Fred Flintstone's car but until other stuff is finished we're talking about once around the block. My GT3 tires still have tread but are aged out. The GT3 is running Advan Neovas - which I've run on a couple different cars on the street and the track. I like that tire allot but here was an opportunity to try something new. Plus the Advan A052 got strong reviews, appears to be Yokohama's more recent addition to the HP Summer line up, and has a great appearance. I have a second set of wheels with slicks that need to be burned up if I go back to the track. Really a champagne problem but I'm real excited to try the A052's. I'm thinking of putting storage wheels and tires on the GT3 and having the wheels refinished before mounting the tires. There's a local shop that did a fantastic job on my Cup 1's.

Did you run them on your GT3?

Glad you like the jack stands. Glad you got yours before we sold out the next day. We have more coming but the Tesla orders really clean us out.

Awesome! These tires are great on the street but don't expect them to last long.

I read that about these tires but better to burn them up than toss them out with serviceable tread left. My Neova fronts just kept on lasting but are now aged out. The rears are newer but only have a year or two before they hit the age limit. They look fine and ride ok in mild mode but I worry about using a 10 year old tire on the front for any kind of spirited driving.

I have 3 sets of wheels that fit the GT3 - 2 sets of factory wheels (1 set mounted with slicks & 1 set mounted with street tires) and a set of Victor equipment wheels that I use for storing the car through the winter. I'm thinking about refinishing one set or maybe both sets of the factory wheels. My inclination is to go factory silver but I'm curious if anyone has different ideas. I'll still have a set of original finish wheels in the mix either way. Both of my factory wheel sets are ok but not flawless and the car is yellow. Any thoughts or pictures would be welcome.

What kind of slicks are you running?

Pirelli - I think it's the same sizes they run on a Cup car. They don't have allot of heat cycles on them but they're a few years old so I'm not sure what I'll do with them.

Pirelli slicks are sizes 245/645/18 front and 305/645/18 rear. Running with fenders rolled and KW Clubsport shocks with about 10mm lower than stock. No issues with rub but I don't know the exact alignment/corner balance specs.
