Default Gearbox question

Hello,

I had a quick question regarding the 996 GT3 transmissions compared with that of the 997 GT3. Do they both possess the same gearbox? And my question is more accurately related particularly to feel, the 997 GT3 seems to have a much crisper notchier gearbox compared with the 996 GT3 why is that, and have any 996 GT3 guys found a way to bridge that gap in feel?

Currently debating with a friend of mine which is more robust, the 997 or the 996 trans. Which one do you guys think is more robust?

Just out of curiosity, can the 996/997 boxes be interchanged without additional mods and just bolt right up?
