Default Oil Change for a GT3

I just had the oil changed in my GT3 (5,000 miles since the last change) and was wondering what most are doing relative to the frequency of oil changes. I know that the oil is the life's blood of the engine but at almost $300 a change...???

I got Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart in 5 gal jugs for something like $22 per jug. Add a filter element for around $10 and you can do this yourself for under $60. I did my first change at around 700 miles and will change once per year going forward, since I won't be putting 15K per year on the car. I agree with John, an oil change will take 30 minutes or a little more if you wait for every last drop of oil to drain out.

Default Oil Change

It seems that they also replaced so minor parts when they did the oil change. On the invoice it was stated that they replaced an Aluminum seal ring, pump seal , added brake cleaner. I wasn't aware that those things needed to be done for an oil change.

These are the parts for a standard oil change as outlined in the link to the instructions listed above.

Parts you will need:
1 ea 996 107 225 52 Oil Filter (with large O-ring)
1 ea 999 707 465 40 Small O-ring
1 ea 900 123 010 20 Copper Sealing Ring - Oil Tank
1 ea 900 123 118 30 Aluminum Sealing Ring - Engine
9 ea 996 106 665 55 Mobil 1 0W-40 or equal (approx. 8.5 liters (MY04 GT3 9.0 liters))

Don't know what brake cleaner has to do with anything. Pump seal must be the copper sealing ring for the oil tank I would guess...

Do all the sealing rings and o-rings come with the filter as part of an oil change kit or do you have to order them each separately?

Default GT3 oil change

You need to ask for oil filter, comes with large O ring, then small O ring, copper sealing ring for tank, and aluminum sealing ring for case

I recently changed my oil, required about 9.6 quarts/US. Very easy, hardest part was replacing filter housing - I now have the proper tool.

At 6000 miles the filter was clean.

[edit]: Seal rings were not included with filter

Hey Richard, where have you been; finally letting your kid drive the GT2?

I hooked up with Tyson and his GT2 top of Stunt, Sunday. Someone mentioned they saw you at the bottom by Mulholland - guess we missed you.

It looks like rain this weekend or I would be there for sure!

Would you be up for Laguna Seca on the 1st of March? I thinking on going up on that Sunday. Your frends have a date on the 3rd at WISR?

I let my son drive the Alfa (in the garage).

My tires wouldn't make the round trip, unless I trailer the car.

Yes, WSIR March 3rd - join us...
