Was putting in new studs this evening and am curious how long you let your rotors go before swapping to new rings?
Starting to get some cracks but none near the edge yet.

 

I change mine around that level of cracking. When I was hitting the track a lot in the past, I did run them lower. But with 5 kids and one more on the way, I no longer see the benefit vs potential risk. ha!

The level of usage you have out of those seems pretty good.

I'd be calling those done

 

Measure the thickness. Minimum is 28mm. They are probably quite close.

 

Replace them now. The cracks are towards the top of the rotor. They are done.

 

Yep, agreed with everyone, time to replace.

 

Looks like a band of color on the rotor as well, which tells me they are cooked.

Replace pads as well or sand them flat so they don't groove the new rotors.

Good point. PFCs pads are awesome, surprised how long they last compared to the rs29s I'd always run in the past.

The $1,200 GIRO 350mm front starter kit, includes rotors and hats, is a bit steep in my estimation. I suppose the good news is that the GIRO replacement rotors are a mere $800, add in the labor to break down the old rotors from the hats, then the labor to attach the new GIRO rotors to the old hats, you are looking at 2+ hours of labor. Let's say $100 an hour for labor.....now the cost to replace the rotors is at least $1,000. Are there any cheaper options?

Now that GIRO front 2 piece are getting a little "long in the tooth", thinking of going to Serbo 350 mm slotted front rotors, for all intents and purposes, Cayenne S front rotors. Probably much cheaper than the GIRO. May try the PFC pads with the new SERBO rotors, but do love my Pagid Yellows. I do have the Serbo 997 Turbo 350mm slotted toreros on the rear, and they have been spectacular.

I'll post up the info I get on the SERBO front rotors as it becomes available. if I don't forget..

 

my sebro slotted rotors with pfc 08s have tremendous life. 17 days with heat checking that is only starting to get to a moderate level.

For solid slotted rotors on front I still choose Deman. Sebro scare me for fronts. For 2 piece I'd go Essex AP hook I think. I hate Giro Disc. personal. I got screwed by them during a transition & the make good sucked.

 

Martin - its SEBRO. Not serbo. There are multiple posts and threads on the price differential between SEBRO rotors and Girodisc. Its well documented.

Can you explain what a "slotted Torero" is?
