Are there any weak spots like the RMS on the 996s. Do they get faster with miles?

Did you test drive the GT3 before trading your 40th?

The 40th is an impressive car with LSD and 345Hp.

anything to watch out for?

A constantly increasing smile with each day in the mountains and canyons!

This is my first Pcar, so I have nothing to compare it to but my M3 & Z8. I'm now up to 1,000 miles, nearly all clocked up in the wonderful mountain roads to the north of LA, and I can say that so far this car gets better with every drive!

I had no idea that any car could be this great to drive fast, and for me it seems fast enough. That said having come off a 20 year long affair with large sportbikes all cars seem slow on acceleration, but the GT3 is just so awesome in the way it handles that it fast winning my heart, and I think I am confident in saying, so far, this is the best high speed machine I have owned so far in my life. I love it!!

i didn't really drive it much, had to drive down from Santa Barbara to La and theres no place to drive in BH @ 6pm on a sunday. The 40 th was ok but not that exciting I also have an 02 Z06 and I guess I needed more kick. i will say it was an expensive 3 weeks of ownership. The 40th did seem like it had more tourque. I just drove the gt3 back to SB so its early to give any real impressions till I get some miles on it.

My sentiments exactly...

There seems to be a direct correlation between a heavier right foot and an increasing smile. Be warned.

4carl, don't worry, the medication is good, but addiction to cars isn't cureable, they just tell you it is.
My advice, stick to rule 1.
Rule 1.........drive it like you stole it, regardless of price, and get off the freeways, make time to explore CA's wonderful deserted back roads!

Just saw an Anniversary 911 at the dealer a couple days ago. Very nice but I don't like the polished wheels- a little too pimp for me but it's personal opinion. If I was going cross country I'd probably want it, but for blasting down the back roads near my house or for a quick trip to Road America this summer, nothing beats the GT3. The more I drive it the more fun it is. You HAVE to run it past 7K just to hear it- just be sure you're holding on to the steering wheel!!!

Road America what a great place i'm from Milwaukee I do miss that track. I also miss winter recreation but not winter. I talked to a buddy today back there 4-8" of snow high of 20, he has an EVO for a winter car.

4karl, I'm in Mequon, I wish I would have known about you trading the car. Where did you trade? That 40th would look good next to my GT3.

Is RMS a factor with GT3's or does it only apply to oil pan type 996's???
I was always wondering about that since I hear it happening to so many 996 C2's, C4's...just curious

The RMS failure is due to an engineering issue with the casting of the M96 block used in the 996 Carreras. The Turbo, GT2, & GT3 use a different engine based on the GT1 racecar which was based off the 964 engine. Hence the 964 part number on the case of most TT's, GT2's, and some early GT3's.

Warm up? Maybe in March now- we got 6" snow and now wind and temps in the teens. Welcome back to reality in Iowa! May need to get a Cayenne!
